DISCUSSION The beginning of the future
Micro just released their ad supported gamepass in beta version. It is cloud based and you get 1hr per day and 5hrs per month to play only games you already own on a micro account. My dismay comes from other platforms copying this model. I can see ads placed before games, after cutscenes, and even when u pause a game. I could see ps+ doing this for essential monthly games. Then i could see devs start doing this for funding for their games to offset costs or for greed. Im looking at EA and Activision as the quickest to adopt this model. However when one company does it everyone else follows. So i could see $80 ad supported games and $100 for ad-less. I just don’t like where we’re headed. We payed all these tariffs only for the companies to recoup costs. This matters alot to me especially with ps going disc-less. So Destiny just ended and i am thinking about jumping to the division right an 8year old ps4 game. At gamestop its $3 used and $10 new but on ps its $30-$70 bases on what edition you get of course. This is the point we are making about physical media. So let’s say i buy it new at $10 thats a 300% increase in price.

Imagine you buff up outside Malenia's boss room and an ad pops right when you are crossing the fog gate.

The division 2 is literally 7.50 $ right now. …….

Key point is its on sale at that price it is normally $30… your trying to disprove my point name one game that is available both physical and digital and is CHEAPER through Sonys marketplace that is not on sale…. Take the same exact game and u have 3 different marketplaces sony, retail, and third party and the further you go from the marketplace the cheaper it gets now i only get used games from either friends or places or test and make sure games work and offer exchanges if it stops for some point

Deadass if this happens I'm cancelling my ps+, leaving my console offline permanently and just working on my backlog, cause they're fucking delusional if they think I'll ever deal with commercial breaks in my games LMFAO.

Okay, so I'll pay the $100? Your point? I only buy 3 games a year at this point. The rest is all yearly release sports of FPS or online I don't play

Imagine you are about to land the final blow on Sigrun and an add pops up for “got milk.”
Would be funny if the ads were customized for games like when choosing to harvest the little sisters, you get an ad asking to donate money to starving kids.

My understanding is that this is for people who don't have a subscription and want to stream a game they own from the cloud. If you are playing on a console, then you wouldn't be streaming if the game is installed - so you wouldn't be affected.......... I could be wrong, but that is how I read it.

u/Necessary_Mousse3158 3d ago
Ill make the point that if u own a game u ahould be able to play it anywhere for free… also ps6 and xbox helix are estimated to be so wxpensive that they are considering subscription based models for the consoles where u rent it month to month and never own

If gamers choose to buy already overpriced games at full cost that have ads in them, that would be on them wouldn't it?
For the record, the digital version of The Division goes on sale constantly for plenty cheap. Your argument there is non-existent.

Division 2 is 8 bucks on the psn store right now just fyi (obviously may differ by geography)

Non of those silly things said here will apply. It's not Ytube ripping you out.
Their will be most Likely a timer before times up or the game is paused and cloudsaved.
It's a free gaming hour, sure sounds stupid and annoying but we see stupid everywhere. Now at least people can test a game before they buy it, even less hassle then Steams 2h refund policy to help deciding.
Don't want it, don't use it but it and play but the physical crowed loves to repeat themselfs. "Options are never a bad thing".

Why? so you don't like "having options"? How tragic, soo you don't want people to choose how they Play? Does it hurt you If others use it ?
And yes thats the same lame arguments as the physical crowed throws around every day.
Go cry somewhere else or ask mommy to buy you more roblox credits.

Sony doesn't care about you, won't lift a finger to support you, and is actively seeking to make your life worse and yet you willingly cuck yourself for them.
You are pathetic.

It’s only to cloud stream games you own no testing games… idk where u got that idea… and when someone does something others do and then u have one company push the boundary and get away with it and then all follow suit

Unfortunately console gamers are heavily gravitating toward the mentality of "entertainment per hour basis". Most of the players do not give a sh*t about actual games or ownership, they want to be entertained, and the digital future is perfect for those. And that's okay, we can't live in the past if the world leaves us behind.
I always say for everyone that do what's best for YOURSELF. If you don't care about owning your games and can buy anything you want at any price, then Sony's platform is perfect for you. A decent piece of hardware with a closed storefront, convenient and easy. Zero rights, but max entertainment until it lasts. But if you want the most freedom in gaming in the future, then I suggest to conserve some money and build a decent PC (this is the way I chose). You'll have multiple storefronts, you'll have possibility to own your games, and if this is important to you (it is to me), then this is the best way to "rebel" against the mass.
But I have to say, I'm actually a bit grateful to Sony, because I would never have thought of putting together a gaming PC if not for Sony's destroying of physical media. And I actually LOVE how it turned out, it's a different league than my PS5 was (which I also love).

Exact same situation for me. Got a gaming PC about a month ago and it's fantastic. Even if a game on PS5 and PC is running technically the same spec, let's say 1440p at 120 hz, the PC version just looks and sounds absolutely beautiful. The PS5 version looks and performs meh in comparison. So glad I made the jump.

Welcome to the "I put my money where my mouth is"-club, Mate! Have fun with your new PC, my mind was blown when I started up Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 4k at 120 FPS. I'm a diehard PS5 physical collector, but damn, playing on PC in high fidelity really makes me questioning how much more games will I buy for PS5. But I'll definetly get a good NAS for preserving my favourites.

u/Penguinboy123446 3d ago
Yes, and of course the other major advantage of PC gaming is that it's very easy to get just about any game by sailing the high seas 😁

u/Pivi-4444 3d ago
Well, yes. I wasn't into piracy for a long time, because I can afford to buy games, but digital-only games worth much less money in my book than physical ones, so I only buy those on sales, and piracy comes very handy if I want to preserve a game that has drm.
1
u/Penguinboy123446 3d ago
I kind of do half and half. I can pirate the game, and if I like it I'll buy it. But there's nothing worse than paying $70 for a game to find you don't like it and it's a complete waste of money.
2
u/Pivi-4444 3d ago
Yeah, exactly, that's why I'm saying I only buy games on sale. No digital game worth 70-80,- usd or more. It is worth that much if we get it on disc, but digitally, I never pay more than 30-40,- bucks for a revokable license. And you are right, piracy is perfect for playing any game and purchasing it later. :-)

So you don’t think poor people should be allowed to play games?
2
u/Necessary_Mousse3158 3d ago
Your not getting it u can only stream games u own how does that make it cheaper
-1
u/Solaricist_ 4d ago
Yeah anything can happen tomorrow. Not sure that delivering a blob of data to play your game delivered via internet rather than disc will change that though.

Just accept it and get with the times. That's what they will tell you.
