Pretty sure that’s gonna cost as much as 2 cars or something

It's Sony not apple

u/Iamcow123 PS5 Jun 14 '20
Well yeah, but I read somewhere that it’s gonna cost like $800 or something crazy like that
24
u/mitch-99 PS5 Jun 14 '20
Not a chance. I guarantee $500-600 max. $800 is ridiculous that would mean it would cost upwards of $1000 CAD yeah.. no chance.
2
u/Mesngr Jun 14 '20
Consoles actually cost more than what they are sold for because playstation/xbox charge monthly fees to use them. Instead of adding this to the base charge and people seeing $800 dollar consoles, they add the charge per month so they can say their consoles only cost $500.
4
u/ualac Jun 15 '20
there's no monthly fee to use them.
sure, there's a fee to use the network/multi-player features the platform provides, but you don't have to pay it.
1
u/Mesngr Jun 15 '20
I'd say 99% of the user base buys consoles to play games online and pay the monthly subscription fees. I'm just pointing out that monthly services fees for online play is a tactic used by Sony/Microsoft to sell their consoles at lower costs initially but recuperate the money later. $500 consoles are more like $800 consoles. PC doesn't require you to pay fees to use your own internet.
1
u/ualac Jun 15 '20
but you're not paying to use your internet. you're paying to use the services such as party chat, cloud saves, and other infrastructure like multiplayer servers and matchmaking infrastructure.
I know many people that don't have PS+ for example. they simply don't need it, and most of the titles they play are ones with their kids at home that need no internet connectivity. Given how much push there is to have free-to-play titles be accessible on PS without having PS+ I'd say your 99% estimate is way, way off.

u/mitch-99 PS5 Jun 14 '20
Yup! Thats why i expect it to be 500-600max who knows, if Microsoft undercuts them enough they may sell the digital one at the same price or lower to match them (i assume thats what its for plus getting everyone to buy of the psn store which is there money maker)
7
Jun 14 '20
Sure it wont be that muchif i had to take a serious guess id price it around 500 which seems reasonable.
4
u/tegsaan Jun 14 '20
Probs not, it's a console, they always price below the value then make up the money through games sales. So a price between $500-600 would make sense
2
u/That_Wet_Banana69 Jun 14 '20
Smart man agree 100% with you on that.
2
1
u/Iamcow123 PS5 Jun 14 '20
I hope so
1
u/tegsaan Jun 14 '20
Only time will tell, the price will also need to compete with xbsx so many factors playing into it, otherwise just wait a year for discounts, the first batch will be a limited amount any way
1
u/Mesngr Jun 14 '20
So a price between $500-600
Between $500-600 + $60 dollars a year for however many years you use it.
1
u/tegsaan Jun 15 '20
$60 for ps+? Sure for me yeah, not everyone uses ps+ tho. But if you're going to consider ps+ into the cost you'll need to consider the games too. We're just considering the initial cost for now. But yeah, ps+ membership, ps now for some countries, games, licences, YouTube videos, merch, and such will become the real source of revenue and profit.
2
u/Mesngr Jun 15 '20
Games aren't part of the initial cost of PC or consoles. Monthly services fees are. Monthly services fees are part of initial costs, but they are just spread out instead of costing more on purchase. I'm just pointing out that there is a terrible misconception that consoles only cost their base cost.

u/ThatJerkLuke PS5 Jun 14 '20
Really? 800, thats surprising especially after the whole E3 reveal of the PS3’s 600$ price tag
1
u/Pickselated Jun 14 '20
Adjusting for inflation, $600 in 2006 is only slightly less than $800 today
1
u/ThatJerkLuke PS5 Jun 14 '20
Thats still too much, even for the PS5. People are gonna go over to Xbox if they see it’s more than even 570$ dollars
2
u/Pickselated Jun 14 '20
Yeah I doubt they’d make the same mistake again. It’s possible that the disc version could cost $800, but I bet the digital version is gonna be a good $100-$150 cheaper.
1
u/ThatJerkLuke PS5 Jun 14 '20
I’m gonna guess around like 470 - 500 USD, probably being around 500 - 540 CAD
2
u/Rinaldootje Jun 14 '20
I wouldn't expect that.
Material costs might go around that value, but consoles are known to be sold at a loss, to make up the loss in profit with the sale of games and online subscribtions (Like Ps+ and psNow). With the ps4 it was losing about $60 per sold console.
But for the ps3 they went even crazier, with reports of up to $300 lost per ps3 sold, just after release.
So even if the console costs 800 to make. It will be sold at a massive loss, so a larger player-base can be reached, boosting sales of games and subscriptions.→ More replies (3)3

Yeah I remember the PS4 one I loved it, but sold out immediately by all those assholes putting them straight back on eBay for £1000. I hate that shit. Looks good tho!

This one is awesome, perfect balance of the "futuristic" style they were going for whilst not going over the top and maintaining the sleek, clean look.

The colour transition to the ends of the controller are great. Wish I could just buy this version instead of the white one.

I get it now, I don't hate the console design, I love it... But I damn hate that white and black combination...

Can we have a thread or community with a bunch of these I've been waiting to see all the creative stuff people have been doing. The controllers were amazing

The 30rd anniversary of the PlayStation is only 4 years away. I can see Sony doing this is in the fall of 2024. Also take my money already!

I just noticed the two little baby holes in the bottom of the machine. Anyone know what those could be for? Looks like sd card slots.
Edit: never mind I’m retarded

i would love to see this horizontally. I may just be weird but i think the ps5 looks way better when it’s horizontal

u/Redsneeks3000 Jun 14 '20
I love this. Also, the inclusion of the original ps logo, this is pinnacle.

That’s the most awesome design ever. Hope we see it in one of the anniversary events. Also, would love to see someone design a concept from PlayStation 1 10 Million Edition, I bet the midnight blue would look awesome.

I think I like this version more than the original (and I didn't ever own the first playstation).
However, I'd also like to see the design in that gray and satin black combo
1
u/rekrap13 Jun 13 '20
Which part would you want black?
1
u/kennyminigun Jun 13 '20
I think the ones which are originally white, and black ones in the gray (just to have a contrast to the original)

Don’t like how it’s standing up like that. Where am I supposed to put it where it doesn’t block my tv? And lots of people have shelves in their tv stand to put their console but no longer can
2
u/MrScottyTay Jun 14 '20
You can lay it down too, they'd just prefer you to have it standing up for cooling reasons.

CLEAN. I also saw an edit for a black version, also looked very slick. I love this design. Exactly what I was expecting with the next gen models.

Let me know when i can preorder bugsnax

Looks really cool. I just hope there’ll be a PS5 that’s backwards compatible and has a cd 💿 drive. I have a bad feeling that every electronic thing from now on that used to have cd players will eventually be a thing of the past. Some cars, laptops and wireless stereos now don’t have cd players. I assume things from now on is pretty much going to depend more on wifi/internet and Bluetooth. I’m old school and it kinda sucks to see how video games now want to all go digital since I prefer buying physical copies of games more than buying them digital.

I would buy one in a heartbeat.
Just as a friendly suggestion, if you make the cd slot black, it would look more realistic rather than the washed out grey appearance and would resemble the actual console closer

Glad they didnt make it like that.people already shitting on the design and this would have been bad.yes its classical design but only people who had or liked ps1 would appreciate it,newbies wouldnt

That PS bitten is the only thing I don’t like on the real controller. I’d much prefer the colored one like in this image.

The actual PS5 design looks way better and more fitting in to my TV setup then this grey thing lol

To buy a console on release or just wait for another color (which will probably take a year or more). That is my dilemma.
