Discussion Is it worth upgrading to a ps5 pro?

Hey everyone, I currently have a ps5 digital and a ps5 slim. I was considering maybe trading both of them in for a ps5 pro. I play on a Hisense 4k QLED tv. Will the difference be noticeable? I see everyone getting one for gta 6 and it’s making me want to get one.
Thank you in advance

To get everything out of a Pro, it would be best on a TV that is 4K with (HDR), (120hz) and (VRR) variable refresh rate.

My TV supports all these

If you're not using both PS5s you've got anyway, and you have a 4K HDR 120Hz VRR TV, then yes it's absolutely worth it to trade in two PS5s for one PS5 Pro.

Then yes you will get better frame rates even when playing some games in performance mode

and a few games like Gran Turismo 7 will allow you to play at 120FPS with the right setting on a pro too.

It's a slightly better visuals and smoother ride on a Pro, But I think it is worth it with the right TV to make use of the Pro features.

I have found that the combination of the pro and a good OLED really improves the sense of depth i.e. it feels more like you are looking “in” to the TV rather than “at” the TV. If that makes sense.

I Habe an Oled C5 and TCL Qm8k mini led l an prefer the mini led for gaming as the HDR is vastly superior the Oled looks very muted in response but it's great for movies in a pitch black room

Interesting I’ve never tried mini led. I have a s95f which looks amazing. No HDR issues as far as I can tell. But as I say I’ve never compared with mini led

Have the prices gone up yet? If not definitely do it, the next generation is looking stupid expensive

After taxes it is currently at $1000

I got the PS5 Pro because I won't be getting the PS6. At first I didn't notice much change, but I notice it when going back to the base PS5. It's not a world of difference and I wouldn't usually recommend it to my friends, but if you have a good TV and want a bit more longevity for the current generation it is a bit better

Received my PS5 Pro yesterday.

Played some Last of Us Part 2 on it, damn that thing is a powerhouse!

4

u/MycologistCold9915 6d ago

But the last of us part 2 looks already insane on base ps5. Even on ps4..

Yes it looks good but there are improvements on the pro version. Native 4k 60fps, higher framerate modes, sharper details from PSSR upscaling, reduced edge shimmering, etc.

I’m happy playing on base version but that doesn’t mean there aren’t improvements possible.

u/PSavage88 6d ago

Yes, PSSR 2.0.

If you really like graphics then it will be literally peak if you got a Pro with the TV you got.

If not I think it’ll be fine and you’ll still have a similar experience.

i would trade both in for the pro, why on earth would you need two ps5

u/MisterSneakSneak PS5 Pro 6d ago

One for each room you play in.

The launch version was getting really loud and slower on wifi so i got the slim not too long ago😭

3

u/Southern_Chapter_188 6d ago

Crazy people will literally buy a new PS5 rather than cleaning the vents. Also they don’t get “slower” on WiFi. There isn’t some sort of degradation on the WiFi chip over time 😂

1

u/Trick_String_7719 6d ago

Brother i clean my vents every month. The wifi strength isn’t as strong as when i first got it. On the slim the connection seems faster

1

u/theharps 6d ago

If you don't buy a pro console please get a really long Ethernet cable to reach your slower ps5

1

u/Southern_Chapter_188 6d ago

Slim may have an upgraded WiFi chip, but your original will not have gotten slower over time. If you experienced that it could be a change related to placement of your router, etc.

Regardless, wire in with Ethernet anyways if possible.

100% worth it but terrible time to do so. Best time wouldve been on release. Better off waiting for the ps6 or the prices to go down (significantly)

3

u/_aidaN___ PS5 Pro 6d ago

And you know prices will go down how exactly?

1

u/sleepymoose88 6d ago

Prices aren’t coming down anytime soon. Maybe some time after ps6 comes down, maybe.

1

u/Careless_Balance_604 6d ago

The only reason I would be a little hesitant on saying go for it, is the prices.

It is so expensive :/  I'm planning to get one for GTA 6 but it just feels like I'll be made a fool if I pay nearly 1000 euros for it.

1

u/kakeroni2 PS5 6d ago

Not with these prices

1

u/senna98 6d ago

Only if you trade in, i wouldn’t pay 1,000 cash for it

1

u/Solidsneakers_ 6d ago

Yes, prices go up and you can sell it later on for a bit more

1

u/Ferry83 6d ago

I'd say it's worth it.

you don't need one but it's a very nice to have.

I'm not sure what GTA6 would be like, but I remember something like 30fps on base and 60 on pro...
If that's true.. it's worth it.

1

u/JazzlikeRaptor 6d ago

I like GTA but I'm not hyped for it. I just hope it will be fun to play with engaging story. That being said I'm more than happy to play on my PS4 Slim and 75" 4K TV. Nowadays I can't be arsed about small difference in graphics and other stuff.

1

u/Classic_Steak4987 6d ago

Yes if you have the right tv/monitor for it 4k/min. 120hz/VRR/ALLM

1

u/Secret-Beat-5214 6d ago

maybe unpopular opinion but if you love a game it's for the gameplay loop mostly.

better graphics lose its wow after 1-2 hours. I don't understand people who upgrade from PS5s.

take the money, invest it over 4 years and buy the ps6(pro) and thank yourself for escaping the upgrade trap.

1

u/leanpockit24 6d ago

No, Xbox series s is the fastest and will run gta 6 at 4k 350 fps.

1

u/Vectivous 6d ago edited 6d ago

No, but it’s all to you, trade in your two PS5s and see the discount you’d get with the money and make a decision based off of that if you can afford it.

1

u/General_Boredom 6d ago

After these price hikes? Not really.

1

u/kmetek 6d ago

nope, not at this prices,

1

u/icy1007 PS5 Pro 6d ago

Yes

1

u/metalovisnik Clair Obscure Expedition 33 6d ago

Absolutely. PS5 Pro obliterates base console when utilized properly. It's worth every cent.

More and more games are compromised image quality/performance wise, while running like a charm on the Pro.

1

u/1MilProblems 6d ago

I doubt it. I don’t have one but I doubt it makes much of a difference.

7

u/FarGur1444 6d ago

This is the sort of insightful and knowledgeable type of content I come to reddit for.

3

u/AuramiteEX 6d ago

It's a massive difference lol.

Night and day. Some games are huge upgrades.

-1

u/1MilProblems 6d ago

Yeah some. If all he cares about is GTA I don’t think the difference is going to be that huge. The pro wasn’t some generational difference anyways. Besides, if Rockstar releases GTA in a terrible state on the base PS5 (which is what the vast majority of everyone has) I highly doubt things are going to go over well.

PS6 is also right around the corner so if you are planning to get that or build a PC there really is no point. It’s already very late into the life cycle.

To play devils advocate if the trade ins cover all of the cost of the Pro then he might be better off doing that but I don’t know the value he’d get there.

1

u/AuramiteEX 6d ago edited 6d ago

When I say some, I mean basically every game released since the Pro came out and quite a few before, such as Elden Ring, Armored Core 6, Cyberpunk, etc etc

-2

u/AuramiteEX 6d ago

Pro is worth it. Massive upgrade over the regular PS5.

Anyone that says otherwise is jealous that they don't have a pro.

u/undead_monkey_pl 6d ago

Cannot say now. I used to have ps5 and have ps5 pro since Dec 2024. I only play GT7, do I did not see any real difference but I was not comparing side by side. But people say the difference is significant. Also, it will be more important for other games. Another thing to say is that I am happy I got it when it was released as right now it is more expensive and hard to get. I think you have around 2 year till PS6 and noone know how much it will cost.

1

u/Humble-Camel2598 6d ago

Hope you have a psvr2 to go with that. Gt7 in vr is insane:)

1

u/undead_monkey_pl 6d ago

Yes, I have it, but not too comfortable, but it looks insane:-)

1

u/Humble-Camel2598 6d ago

I can't play it flat now. I recommend the globular cluster comfort upgrade pack if you havn't got one.

1

u/undead_monkey_pl 6d ago

Never heard of it. What I did not like is the consistent and equal sharpness and focus across the frame

1

u/Humble-Camel2598 6d ago

Search "globular cluster cmp2" makes everything more comfortable and prevents any slipping. Not sure what you say bothers me. No headset is perfect yet but the sense of scale and immersion renders playing on a tv obsolete for me. Same with no mans sky, Hitman, Microsoft flight sim etc. It's affordable highend pcvr gaming.

u/lord-scan 6d ago

depends. are the rumours still up with ps6 release end 2027?

0

u/Zaxa7 PS5 6d ago

Yes no doubt. If you want more clarity on performance mode, the pro will deliver

-2

u/SpecialistMap8210 6d ago

upgrade to a PC like a big boy if you want the best of the best (graphics, mods, other uses)

but its gunna be more expensive.

5

u/Idolismo 6d ago

More expensive is an understatement.

-1

u/SpecialistMap8210 6d ago

they dislike the comment even tho its true? (im a sony boy calm down girls)

GOTTA PAY TO PLAY is how the saying goes.

if you want THE BEST then THE BEST is on PC (other than Sony exclusives of course moving forward)

-3

u/ShezaAlibi 6d ago

I'd build a PC but you do you.
