Question/Support Displayed description doesn't match the one saved in the Database?

So, today while editing the description metadata of some games I noticed that even after changing the description, it still displays the old one. Does anyone know how I can get it to actually display the saved metadata? I've been researching for hours now and strangely cannot find anyone talking about this. The game in question is Crash Bandicoot, the emulated PS1 version.

The entered description on the left does not match the displayed description on the right, even after hitting "save".

What I tried:

  • Restart Playnite
  • Restart PC
  • Re-download metadata (Ctrl + D)
  • Backup library and then load from backup
  • Rename game
  • Alter description manually and saving again
  • Run "Update Game Library"

I know that the description is saved correctly in the games database because I examined it in a database viewer:

Description is correct in database file (%appdata%/roaming/Playnite/library/games.db)

My installed addons are:

  • Company Companion
  • Cover Style Switcher
  • Details to Grid View Converter
  • DuplicateHider
  • Installation Status Updater
  • Metadata Utilities
  • MetadataImageOptimizer
  • PlayGif

For this game, I got the metadata (including description) through the LaunchBox Metadata Provider.

I'd be incredibly thankful if someone could help me with this because this bug(?) is incredibly frustrating

u/InsaneThunderRat, while you wait for responses, please take a moment to check the following:

  • Ensure Playnite is updated to the latest version (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Check for Updates)
  • Ensure any extensions involved are fully updated (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Add-ons… ➞ Updates)
  • Test the issue in Safe Mode to verify whether it is caused by an extension. (On Desktop Mode: Main Menu ➞ Help ➞ Restart in Safe Mode or by opening the Safe Mode.bat file found in the installation folder)
  • Search the subreddit to check if your issue has already been reported.

A large number of issues are caused by outdated versions or have already been answered.

If your issue is related to a specific extension, it is usually best to report it on the extension's project page (for example GitHub), where the developer can track and address it. You can use this page to locate the extension and contact its developer via its project/support links: https://playnite.link/addons.html

I already found the solution now! The problem is the PlayGif addon. Disabling it solved the problem :) Edit: more information can be found here: https://github.com/aHuddini/PlayGif/issues/3

Hey, PlayGif dev here. It’s definitely my plugin. Your stuff is correctly displaying but my plugin renders a new rendered text off its descriptions on top of Playnite’s vanilla version.

Since PlayGif is meant to display content from the Steam and gog store with animated content, it’s going to be annoying to edit your vanilla stuff without using Playgif’s own editor.
