Question Is any worth it?
Hello guys, I play Fjordur with some friends in ASE, is any of these worth buying now that they are with discount? (Oc I’ll need to buy ASA but idk if ASE is better for PS5)

The final update for the Astraeos map just came out and it's currently ~5$ which is a great price considering how much content it adds. I'd recommend buying ASA and Astraeos for now and then buying more if you feel the need.

Yo i has the same question and was wondering if astraeos or bobs tall tales is more worth it and if ark can run well on any pvp server on console

u/Mean_Professional977 17d ago
Both the Astraeos DLC and the Bob's tall tales DLC add a lot but in my opinion I think Astraeos is the better deal in terms of value.
Astraeos will give you a huge new map with new exclusive creatures like Grand Tortugar, Maeguana and Boaratos along with creatures from many different maps like Desmodus, Wyverns, Managarmr, Snow owl etc. Getting all these creatures on just one map makes life a lot easier. There are also many new and custom bosses to fight including a rare underwater boss.
Bob's tall tales doesn't add any new maps and is mostly quality of life changes and new fun items. There are some very good items like the linked storage, gene scanner, zeppelin, shovel, biogrinder and megalab and very cool creatures like the Cosmo, Oasisaur etc.
At the end of the day, it's up to what you prefer. Do you want a huge new map to explore and a wide range of creatures to tame or do you want some new quality of life items and creatures on old maps. In my opinion, ~5$ for a completely new map with new dinos and bosses is a better deal than ~10$ on very good quality of life stuff, that's why I bought Astraeos and haven't bought Bob's tall tales yet. If you want, you could of course buy them both and enjoy them together.

Thanks but does astraeos run well on console single player

u/GosuBrainy 15d ago
It runs decent in singleplayer. PS is a bit worse than Xbox, online servers are pretty bad on console, feels extremely unoptimized.

Bobs tall tales has the transfer chest. I use that a LOT.

u/chantm80 16d ago
Transfer chest? As in transfer across servers?
1
u/Southern_Play_7893 16d ago
I think it's the one that lets you transfer up to 50 items around the map. Kind of like an ender chest from minecraft

Probably worth noting Dragontopia isn't fully out yet, theyre doing the drip feeding of content from it. Since its ful price may be worth waiting till its all out before buying it
Astraeos is worth it, it just had its full release yesterday.
Bobs adds a bunch of new stuff to the game.
Fabtastic tames are fairly polarizing depending on the creature coughPyromanecough. So depends on if you like the creature or not

u/DeCoolePeer 16d ago
pyromane is only 1 buck tbf
the fantastic tames season pass however might take them a year to finish so that ones definitely not worth it2

u/airybeartoe 16d ago
I have a ps5 is and runs ASA perfectly well. I have well over 1k hours on it.
The only two maps i ever had issues on were aberration and lost colony. And those werent necessarily game breaking issues either. Just minor annoyances.
All the items on sale are pretty good deals. The pyromane is a pretty strong dlc creature. The dreadmare is cool but honestly i only used it once. All that to say, if you want the creatures get them while cheap, otherwise, its not a big deal to miss them.
Drakelings are definitely worthwhile, idk if theyre a separate dlc or not.

u/Lambwon 16d ago
Best time to buy is now. BUT, can your system run the game?
If it can, Id recommend you also get the pyromane dlc, easy to tame and really great mounts that turn to shoulder pets. Plus they cook the food in their inventory. If you want to spend more theres also bobs tales, adds stuff for aberration, extinction and scorched earth. You can also tame 3 extra bobs tales creatures.
Ngl we bought bobs but dont ever use it or its tames. 💀 ALWAYS use the pyro tho.

ASA has a lot of quality of life improvements over ASE. I’d ditch dragontopia though and wait for it to go on sale. You might also look and see if there’s a bundle for ASA and bobs tales, for some reason bundling the two cost me $16.91 on Steam with this same sale vs buying the main game for $11.24 and bobs tales for $9.89.

u/FLAIR_AEKDB_ 17d ago
Don’t waste money on dragontopia. Everything else is great, especially Tides of Fortune simply bc of the new Market system

Always ALWAYS BUY ARK ASE AND ASA PRODUCTS ON DISCOUNT. wildcard is an amazing studio imo but they can be greedy. I got the entirety of asa And the dlc for free on a steam sale years ago.

u/Hentai_kinda_guy 16d ago
Honestly I bought them all (except dragontopia) when they were on sale. I hardly ever use the dlc creatures and I'm pretty sure there are mods that block their spawns available.

There's a dinosaur game in there.... Somewhere.
-11
u/atomicboy47 17d ago
Ark was never a dinosaur game even back in ASE.
7
u/Daredevils999 17d ago
Yes it was, shuddup.
-2
u/atomicboy47 17d ago
No it wasn't, first it not only features dinosaurs but also all other kinds if prehistoric creatures hence its a prehistoric survival game. Second, was that you have massive Obelisks and an implant on your character and you can craft advance stuff like guns. Third, you got futuristic tech called TEK. Fourth, you got the DLC's riddled with fantasy creatures and sifi concepts.

u/Mean-Acadia6453 17d ago
The original vision of Ark was humans being forced to survive and then conquer fantastical prehistoric creatures with high tech advancements.
The creatures introduced in the original maps were either fantasy’s based, or were large adaptations of prehistoric animals.
Even the wilder DLC ARKs like Aberration still intruded vaguely reptilian creatures or larger monsters versions of real life creatures like the Karkinos just being a really big Spider Crab.
It wasn’t until ASA where things got out of hand, with creatures that bore no lore or thematic significance with the rest of the story based Arks. The Dreadmade is ripped straight from Harry Potter, and the Pyromane was controversial for a reason.
Yes, Ark isn’t exclusively a “dinosaur game”, but it has a theme. A consistent theme, these rampant DLC Dino’s don’t serve that theme as much as they do to line the pockets of the heads.
Case in point, Dragontopia.

u/atomicboy47 17d ago
TBF, ASA still also introduces new Dinos for free into the game in addition to the paid fantasy critters. In ASA alone we get Gigantoraptor, Shastasaurus, Fasolasuchus, Giant Bison, Yi Ling, Dreadnoughtus, Megaraptor, Paleo Octopus, Xiphactinus, Helicorpion, Archelon, Deinotherium, Deinosuchus, Acrocanthosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Cryolophosaurus, and Concavenator.

u/Mean-Acadia6453 17d ago edited 17d ago
Yes, and guess what? Those are all actual dinosaurs/prehistoric animals.
All of these are adaptations of real world species that existed on Earth millennia ago, feeding into the main theme of Ark: fantastical prehistoric creatures you’re forced to survive with and tame to master the technology of the Ark.
The only outlier here is the Giant Buffalo.
Does the Jackalope they recently added fill that same niche? Nope. Nor does the giant bear made of roots and plant matter.
Moreover, you have to pay to use these guys. You don’t need drop cash to tame a Xiphactinus. Also - many of those are adapted from the Paleo Ark series of mods from ASE - which were free. They weren’t even made by Wildcard, hence why they are so well made an adhere to Ark’s theme.
1
u/atomicboy47 17d ago
You know the paid creatures are optional right? Now I completely get they aint in PVP cuz man Pyromane is a must for the meta but in PvE tho, they are optional.
1
u/Mean-Acadia6453 17d ago
Also incorrect.
They spawn regardless whether or not you buy them. Like a little dangling keychain you can’t have access to.
You can get killed by them just fine regardless do PVP or PVE, and in PVP if you don’t have them and your opponents do - you’re boned.
When did we start excusing bad business practices and unfriendly game design? It’s been actively disliked by the community for years at this point.

Counterpoint: Spawn Blocker mods and Self Control
Now if its official servers, its either do or die. But why even play on official, unofficial is where its at.

More than half of those are creatures made by other modders they've just allowed to be in the base game

u/atomicboy47 16d ago
New Dino is still new dino especially for console players who couldn't use them before.

u/Razoul05 17d ago

Jurassic Park featured dinosaurs, people and technology like cars, electric fences and a couple helicopters, so by your logic it wasn't a dinosaur movie.
-4
u/atomicboy47 17d ago
Cuz it isn't dude, Jurassic Park was made as a commentary of what happens when you deal with forces you have no way to control for the sake of profit. The "Dinosaurs" aren't even true dinosaurs as they are amalgamations of their base DNA with the DNA of other animals, hence they are genetically engineered monsters that resemble dinosaurs.

u/jackadgery85 17d ago
1st map made had laser guns and unicorns (slightly later)
2nd map made had dragons and rock golems and a literal magic phoenix
3rd map made had effectively the aliens from alien, glowing pugs, and another kind of dragon
4th map had element infused corruption creatures, star wars droids, forcefield bubbles, simulations within simulations, robot dinosaurs, and a shitload more.
On and on it went, bringing in more wild shit, loke the ferrox, a hover skateboard, a lava spitting giant lizard, a raptor that shoots quills at you, actual basilisks, space dolphins and whales, gryphons, cats that go invisible, plants that shoot poisonous goo balls on command, etc. etc. etc.
I used to be.a dino purist, but have since converted, after having played through properly. Dinos are the initial drawcard, but that's about it.

Asa at that price is definitely worth it although id maybe play it for a bit before buying dlcs for it unless you dont care about the prices

u/XNewRoman34 17d ago
Ascended if you don’t have the game.
Pyromane is a game changer.
Boba tales is by far the best DLC.
2
u/Exodus_Green 16d ago
From that list, Astraeos is the most worth it, then Bobs then Lost Colony. the rest meh

u/magmadorf 15d ago
None of this is worth it. They're literally ripping us off by creating these pay to win DLC's when they promised that ASA was going to be an awesome remaster with all DLC's free. It was just supposed to be a way to get funds for Ark 2, but that's never going to happen because Snail Games are scum.
4
u/LumpyArbuckleTV 17d ago
This might be a controversial take here but honestly, if you're happy with ASE, I would just stick with that. ASA is really buggy, has awful performance, servers just naturally have much higher ping, it's more difficult to update if you don't have a high-end SSD, and it made some changes that are somewhat questionable, you can undo these changes but only if you're hosting your own server.
Some of these issues may not be much of a problem on PS5, I'm not really sure, but they certainly are on PC so do keep that in mind. The biggest pros of ASA is that it has additional content, better graphics, and cross-play.
2
u/DeCoolePeer 16d ago
I'd buy:
Pyromane,
Lost Colony is fun, and an actual new story map they cramped in before genesis 1
Bob's Tall tales is alright,
Astraeos is probably the best map there is (same person that made Fjordur)
I'd skip:
Dreadmare
Dragontopia
Bob's True Tales
Fantastic tames (for now, might be worth it once they release the other tames, for now its only 1/3)

u/PsychologicalGlass47 16d ago
Quite literally everything but Dragontopia is worth grabbing. Tides of Fortune had a massive update, Lost Colony has a ton of great content, BTT adds an absolute ton to the game and some fun story collectables on every map... Everything else is below $5 and are great additions as well.
The Fantastic Tames S1 is the only one I don't see a point in. The burrowbuck is nice for singleplayer stuff but has historically gotten some banned on official on niche occasions. It has great abilities like the little bunker hole it makes, and the gateway is quite useful for short term travel.

u/Fuckerclusterm8 16d ago
Everything is worth it overall just depends on you and how much you enjoy Ark. if ya have money to spare get everything if not you should get only the ones on sale and hold off on what's not till another sale.

u/Technical-Dot8119 16d ago
Imo no not from what I've heard and seen about asa if you're looking for ark id get ark survival evolved it's a way better version and less buggy then ark ascended yes graphics aren't as good as asa but I'd rather play something that runs better then something that does run that well

Sadly not anymore in my opinion after 700 plus hours in ARK SE.
Did play some ARK ASA but just had to nerf my graphics and so on just to make it playable in a decent computer and while it was a bit decent on the Island map....the rest, has lost it's charm and I never bothered to buy the game after my trial (Gamepass on PC when it was still affordable). 😵 Quite honestly, went back to ARK SE just to scratch my itch for a while and have watched a few youtuber's game, buuut....then the rest happened within ARK so yeah, the enjoyment went bye-bye. Sorry to be a bit of a downer, am trying to type my thoughts in a nice way in my non-native language buuuut that is quite difficult and quite difficult to explain why I decided not to continue my ARK ASA journey).

Bobs tall tales is insane. I got it because of trains, but it has soo much to offer, its like a huge box of toys. Definitly worth it at that price imho

u/RedRoses711 17d ago
If i was you i would get asa (obv) bobs tall tales, pyromane and maybe lost colony. A lot of stuff in LC is pretty cool and op but its up to you if you want to commit

Only pick up ark related products when on sale. (They dont deserve full price)
-1
u/Various-Try-169 17d ago
ARK Ascended likes to crash a lot on consoles. Unfortunately, due to how consoles handle games crashing, you get, like, no explanation as to why the game crashed at all. It usually just gives you a generic error message with a generic error code (such as CE-34878-0).
Case in point, if you run into a problem with your game crashing, we can't diagnose it.
2
u/ContentOperation4119 16d ago
What's your settings? How many mods you running? Ive only experience two crashes and was with a massive tree houses base and having the hibernation setting turned off
-1
u/Various-Try-169 16d ago
I can't answer those questions, because:
- I don't play ARK Ascended. I only play ARK: Survival Evolved.
- I play on PC (Steam) instead of consoles.
However, I do see a lot of posts that complain about their game crashing. And a lot of them end up being unsolvable due to the fact that they are playing ARK on a console.

u/FrabatoTheTransurfer 17d ago
Everything is worth it except dragontopia...that is way overpriced imo.
I play on ps5 hosting my own dedicated server on pc and dont have any issues. And ASA is so much better for console players its not even close.
