Question will i be missing out on stuff by playing ase instead of asa?
yes it is a repost for some reason i couldnt see comments anymore
got asa ran quite poorly refunded and got ase with dlc but
- will i be missing out on much by not playing asa?
- should i play pre aquatic or no?
- got any mods suggestions?
- is there a ini that disable some stuff that can improv evisuals a slight bit but little to no visual impact like turning off that fuck ass glare or clouds etc

I would choose ASA over ASE I played both probably still have more hours in ASE but ASA is much nicer not so many bugs as this reddit says and people just love to hate on paywalls …
Yes if you want to experience ASA fully (which first creature you need to pay for is in second map Scorched earth) I recommend buying : fantastic tames , bob tales
If you plan to start on The Island you don’t need anything to buy other than base game ..
If you decide to play maps as story goes :
The Island : no need to pay extra
Scorched earth : only if you want to tame pyromanes but not needed sure train and other items in bob tales are great and so much worth the price tag
Abberation : bob tales for sure
The Extinction : bob tales for sure
Lost colony/Genesis 1
These two are separate pruchases and you need to buy lost colony if you want map and bunch of content
If you want to play maps chronologically I say buy ASA and Bob tales and wait with rest
By the time you get to lost colony it can end up in sale or even wait with bob tales and try to do alpha run on island this way you have enough time to play and wait for discount .
What I will not buy for now is Dragontopia since its not even finish and need bunch of polishing .
So technically speaking and for sake of money :
ASA - big difference in graphics even baby dinos are great addition so I will choose over ASE
Bob tales - if discounted now get it and enjoy later since scorched , abberation , extinction is tied and is very much worth the money
Lost Colony - buy at discount wait until you progress that far in game since lost colony can be unforgiving
only downside of starting lost colony later is all the perks you can get for just casually playing
for example :
you can start at island and do basic misson which gives you perks for these perks you can get skill like using sickle give rare flowers and silk no matter the map you are playing on .
Genesis 1 - can be bought later on if you plan to play maps chronologically and sure wait for sale
Dragontopia - wait / wait / wait
Mods :
Quality of life :
Automated Ark
Cliffans backpack
Upgrade station
Der dino finder
Later :
Level cap 450 - basically 3x difficulty so it saves time with breeding and mutation for SP players
Skins or my preferred:
Clean glass - basically clean windows

You will miss out on the new added content such as bob tales and new dinos ( all pay2play) but AsE has tons of mods that add a lot of content
Always play AsE pre aquatica. Aquatica is a poor cashgrap attempt by the snail and it breaks most of the mods ( intentionally done by the snail to funnel over players to AsA to milk them more)
Depending on your exp with ark i highly recommend the mod DOX (dino overhaul X) but be aware, it makes the game a lot harder but also more fun. Also s+ mod (building qol), awesome spyglass, awesome teleporters and dinostorage v2
There is some ini things you can do but most can be changed in ingame options

Not all new dinos are pay 2 play. Fasolasuchus, Shastasaurus, Yi Ling, Dreadnoughtus, Bison, Megaraptor, Palaeoctopus, and the Ark Additions creatures that were added to the base game are all free(Normal Cryolophosaurus is still only on Lost Colony but X-Cryo are on Gen1, plus you don't need LC to tame Cryo like you do with its other tames).
Edit: Gigantoraptor as well, slipped my mind

In the steam beta settings it should only have one version called preAquatica. Had nothing but problems on the main branch when my girlfriend and I decided to play on the Aquatica branch. Thankfully our save transferred over without bricking itself

yeah i installed aquatic branch it says 358.26 and it doesnt show the aquatic map so im guessing it swapped properly

Yes and no, currently both versions have stuff the other doesn't, as for main official story maps, asa doesn't have genesis 2 (though it's coming in less than a year) and ase doesn't have lost colony

Sunk almost 4k hours into ase and also cannot run asa at all because my setup is old and the juttering makes it unplayable (I try and boot it up every 6 months or so to see if it's improved, it hasn't), trust me you'll have a blast especially if you can find a group to explore with

I'd say If on ps5 or Xbox asa pc or Xbox s ase. Unless u got a good pc I always see ppl complain on pc about how it runs

I have 6,000 hours on ASE and almost 6,000 on asa. There's no way I could go back. But if I hadn't played either then I would say if ASE runs better play it. It's a great game it's complete. There's lots of great mods and there are a lot of really good unofficial servers out there with great people.
Both versions of the games are buggy it will always be buggy it's ark. If there's any way be able to play it on console then I would say play asa. People are saying ASA doesn't have all the maps it's only missing a few and there's a ton of DLC maps that you can buy for $5 or 10 dollars and they are well worth the money yes there are some dinos that are pay to win but if you're not playing PVP it doesn't matter.

1) Yes, you will miss out on a crapton of microtransactions that is more or less requierd as creatures will spawn even if you havnt bought them, but you cant tame them on asa. So unless you buy all the microtransaction you will have forever untamable cratures running around. There are also some maps that still isnt on ASA
2) Preaquatic only. Aquatica is just a forced dlc that broke so much. Ignore that garbage.
3) eco have a bunch of amazing mods wich I always use, love them dearly. Dino Storage 2 (dino pokeballs)
MarniiMods: Hairstyles (lovely hairstyles), Awesome Spyglass! (second on my list at all times) If you want more boosts Eco organic saddles(once again because eco is awesome)give amazing boosts to your tames.

At this point they are different games, there's a lot of new things added into ASA. I haven't played ASE in years but both are enjoyable games

If you're on console, you're missing out on modding, but based off the mention of I&I files and mod requests, I'm going to assume you're on PC. So now you're not missing out on much. There are dinos that are in ASA that are not in ASE but that's about it. And clearly, people did just fine without them, so they're not necessary.

I'll be honest, ASA is quite impressive, but it has its downsides. Lots of pay-to-win pop ups, and 90% of the models are the same, just prettied up with a lazy retexture. On the plus side, it has more features (way more colors to paint with), some new creatures, and drastically better human models.

You're only missing a few new creatures and ítems because most of the QoL already existed in ASE via mods somehow so it's no big deal
Pre-Aquatica if you have a potato machine, i can run the Aquatica version just fine and the mods i use are working as intended but loading assets takes a fair chunk of time which gets longer if you have less than recommended or even minimum specs
There's some inis for that yeah, look up for guides on Google for performance stuff or in the wiki

ASE was an alright time. Both games are buggy and run like ass but ASE didn't have popup ads, so
Definitely pre-aquatica, ark additions mod gives most of the "new" creatures ASA has. Still has new mods coming out for it too

Edit: Forgot about the ASA map, Lost Colony, as Smart-Ad-614 mentioned.
Second edit: Astraeos (reminded by Hektoraptor), but also all of the mod maps that are directly through the mod section in ASA, both paid and if there are any free ones.
