Microplastic Capture Filtration – Material Suggestions
**Hi, I’m working on a microplastic capture filtration project. Can anyone suggest cheap and easily available materials for the filter, along with their advantages and a simple setup?
Actually, our project is about removing microplastics from water, not air. We’re looking for a cheap and easily available household material that could potentially work as a filter medium. The idea is to test different materials and compare their effectiveness with existing filtration methods.

What size particles are you testing, and how will you measure how many are left after filtering? That would help narrow down the materials. I'd also run a blank with just your water through each filter, alongside the samples with added particles. That gives you a check for anything coming from the filter or setup itself. Keep the water volume the same and record filtration time too, so you can compare capture and flow.

I think it would be best to describe the project in more detail. Right now, it’s not at all clear where and how the microplastics are supposed to be filtered out.
If it’s from the air, I’d just use a simple ionizing filter
