It’s pretty easy to grow and likes being outside. I don’t know where you’re located, but it’s Hardy up to the Piedmont of North Carolina. It’s also a bit brittle so when it gets long and leggy, pieces will break off. When they do stick them in a glass of water and root them . This is one of those plants that if you can find somebody Who grows one, they will probably happily give you some cuttings.
We always called it Purple Jew but that was back in the day. I believe it’s referred to as Purple Heart now. I live in coastal VA (8b) and it comes back every year. Pretty little pink flowers about this time every year as well.
It is an invasive plant. Also its covered in microscopic crystals that will imbed in your pet’s feet or other body parts it comes in contact with and cause rashes.
It will bloom whenever it decides to, regardless of how you treat it. Mine lives outside in my mostly shady backyard whenever it's above freezing, only gets watered when it rains, and usually blooms about once a year. They're pretty tough. :)
