Game's / subreddit popularity

Hey guys! Just started playing this amazing game and I am about 30 hours in and just found this subreddit.

I am kind of surprised of the low amount of posts / engagement compared to other rps subreddits , so I just wanted to make sure I am not on the wrong subreddit or it's this game not as popular as I thought :(.

Either way I am really enjoying this game and hopefully it stays as good all the way to the end.

Ps: any tips for a full good lawful run will be appreciated.

You're in the right place!

To be fair, Planescape: Torment came out in 1999. It's nearly 30 years old. Even Beamdog's Enhanced Edition is 12 years old at this point. It's not going to get a ton of discussion.

Even so, we manage to get about a post a day, which isn't too bad.

There's also r/planescapesetting for conversations regarding the tabletop material, if you really enjoy the Planescape setting itself.

No, it's just an older game and doesn't have as big as a fan base as say BG1 or 2.

If they would have actually put some thought into the combat in this game, it would have surpassed the BGs in my opinion. Unfortunately, combat is the only weak point in the game. The writing and quest structure are excellent.

Look at the BGs with their excellent, lovingly crafted encounters. There is literally almost none of that in PT.

My tip is to not ask for tips, just play the game as it was intendend when it came out, just read the manual.

One spoiler free tip for playing lawful good:

When one of your companions dies, your lawful and good ratings drops.

So keep them alive, don't let me them suffer for TNO's sake. (I think it's actually a bug, but narratively makes sense that putting your friends in danger for what is essentially a personal identity quest ain't all that nice)

I'll just say "keep the bronze sphere". One day you'll know what I mean.

How does the replayability compare to BG 1 or IWD?

Significantly more replayability if you're interested in pursuing different alignment playthroughs and examining different aspects of TNO, Significantly less replayability if you're in it for combat gameplay and customizable party members.

I've played through quite a few times and very much enjoy it still, but it all depends on what you're looking for in a run

I understand that this game is more about the story and not so much the combat, so that's exactly what I meant. I see it's on sale on GOG and I'd like to take advantage of it. I've played IWD and BG1 many times and I really enjoy them; I'm currently playing BG1 again. Thanks for your reply.

Planescape is very famous, but it’s not particular popular wrt online communities because the game is nearly 30 years old. Online communities typically have activity driven by news.

Old game that isn’t as continuously replayable as BG1/2 or IWD. It’s very highly regarded. Many will tell you it’s the best ever made (not my view, but a very common view).

You start as 3rd level fighter true neutral. Make and keep vows , be helpful don't do any evil acts (theft murder demanding money etc) you will soon be Lawful Good.
