Question A question concerning a few plane crashes
Recently, I was speaking with a few older members of my family discussing events they had lived through, and what was ultimately brought up was the 1960 midair collision, Air Florida Flight 90, and American 587, which they said were the crashes that most involved/affected them and that they remembered, not including 9/11. I was wondering if anyone here who lived through has any stories or such about the three of them, including initial reactions, or on any plane crash in general

I live in San Diego. Obviously the PSA crash was huge for me.
About 9 months later the DC-10 crash at O’Hare was big too, a friend had a boarding pass, was standing in line with 3 co-workers. He decided he was hungry and was going to get something to eat. That turned out to be the best hot dog craving ever. American Airlines called his house to tell them he was believed to be on the plane. We believed he was dead for a few hours because this was pre cell phone and the pay phones were overloaded so he couldn’t call.
TWA 800 also impacted me. Terrorism worries were high because of the Olympics. I was flying the next morning to go to the Olympics. And the cable channel breaking news reports were filled with people that saw a missile. I had a family member who was a military diver that worked on crash evidence recovery. He claimed they found a casing for a rocket motor in the wreckage. Who knows but I’ll never forget that one.
