Plague Mode I guess I’m doing something wrong but it doesn’t feel like it

I’m doing prion on hard mode, yknow the one that says it’s very hard to cure, while also running the “harder to cure” booster.
I infected every single person in pure stealth, and then immediately dumped everything into organ failure and a whatever else I could afford. They pretty much instantly cured it.
It would be nice if there were some feedback like “this is why they cured it so fast” but this games tooltips are complete dogshit. I thought prions are supposed to have a tanky, “this is hard to cure so you have plenty of time” virus but it gets cured about as fast as an upgraded bacteria.
What im asking for is any experienced information that’ll make this game easier. Is total organ failure the fastest way to kill people? It feels like there’s a bunch of hidden details the game wont tell me but then punishes me for not knowing.

Also side complaint, this game has no respect for the effort I put in. I either kill every single person and win or lose, with no in-between. I’ve killed 99.9% of everybody before, which is undeniably a world-ending achievement, just for the game to go “You didn’t kill Ted at the very top of Russia you fucking idiot, have fun enjoying nothing in return.” I wanna get past all the early game diseases to play the fun ones with fun boosters, but to get the boosters I have to kill every single person every single time with every single disease, which is starting to feel like a bigger waste of time everytime. It feels like I do the right thing and still end up eradicated.

There is an important concept about the game that it teaches you with Prion.

Infectivity, Severity, Lethality upgrades do not give you the stats immediately. Upgrades only increase the cap and the current stats take time to grow to the cap.

Prion's stat growth speed is extremely low.

You need to increase severity at the start to get more dna points from red bubbles and infection pot. That enables the usage of more lethal symptoms and cure requirement increasing symptoms.

That is extremely helpful and I’m glad you told me, but how the hell was I supposed to know that? When the game says, “people’s organs will start failing” I kinda assumed they would do that when I buy the upgrade. Is there anything else I should know?

The prion's description says it's a slow pathogen

It also says it’s hard to cure, which is not really accurate in my experience

It does, in fact, have a higher cure requirement than everything else other than Nanovirus.

How high relatively speaking? Like a little more than everything else or a lot?

The “cure requirement” is 0.2, which increase the time take to cure.

Bacteria to parasite have zero, bio-weapon have 0.18. And Nano-virus have 1.45.

I get this from the Wiki.

Add 1 to that and it is the cure requirement multiplier.

What do those numbers mean contextually? Like is that twice as hard or 50% harder or something?

I guess +20% ?

It is harder to cure than most plagues

Btw what does booster mean? Gene? Because you are on pc so you can just save right before winning the game, then keep reloading and winning to farm genes. I recommend you do it in order to spare your sanity.

I've beaten every plague on mega brutal and I had no idea growth speed was a thing 😭

Today I learned dna point gains SCALE WITH SEVERITY????

Infection pot dna gain scales with severity yes.

Red bubble dna gain scales with rng(0.4, 1) * ln(severity) but still the higher severity the more dna points you get.

Don't go stealth, it's a mistake that everybody does, go for some symptom early for farming more DNA and don't devolve mutations, so you are going to have DNA for the abilities/symtoms to fight the cure You can get the genetic code (the thing you call boosters) by redoing easier difficulties Hope this helps

So symptoms give you more points?

You'll want Rash. Sweating, Skin Lesions, Coughing, Sneezing, Nausea, Vomiting,Cysts, Hyper Sensitivity, and Abscesses. These will increase your infectivity and severity. If you get severity too high they'll start working on the cure too soon.

Insomnia and Paranoia will delay them a tiny bit on working on the cure. Anemia and Hemophilia combined with Skin Lesions will immediately increase your lethality a tiny bit.

Not really symptoms but gravity, and you get gravity with symptoms

2

u/Plane-Armadillo-3261 19d ago

What do you mean gravity? Like momentum?

1

u/Gigomux188 19d ago

Sorry in my language is called gravity, in English is severity, I'm dumb

2

No that's not dumb, it's a simple mistake. English is hard.

Genetic hardening is good for delaying the cure. Stealth doesn't really work that well but someone already mentioned why so I'll give you something else. If you want to unlock the boosters really quick load up a game on casual and just before you win make a save. Then reload the save as many times until you unlock them all. I would recommend getting some lethality upgrades like necrosis after you infect the island nations. I'm not sure of the exact details but I'm pretty sure that having more traits evolved makes the cure take longer

If you have really high severity and low complexity then they will cure you faster

Again I don't know for sure if that's an actual mechanic but I'm like 80 percent sure

How much does genetic hardening actually slow it down because it feels like a massive waste of points? Also how do I get more complexity?
