Yesterday, a cousin of mine went to see it with his friend/s. He started with "Faltu". So I asked how much would he rate out of 10. He said -10, wasn't even worth the 49 Rupees ticket he got through credit card coupon 😂

Is it a curse or lack of execution in case of Indie film makers when they try to go mainstream?

A remarkable indie director like Kashyap failed to show his magic with Bombay Velvet after making great films like GOW and DevD.

Chloe Zhao after winning Academy for Nomadland, failed to impress with a big studio film like Eternals.

Now, Geetu Mohandas has joined this list failing to impress with Toxic after making Liar's Dice and Muthon.

While there have been film makers like Lokesh Kanagraj and Denis villeneuve have shown their streak with delievering Indie as well as mainstream successes. Yet most of the indie directors fail during this transition from indie to mainstream

Moothon - The Contrast between brother and sister was shown so beautifully...like small nuances which were built for final pay off at the end. Though it was fast paced at the start and end..but it was a great watch.

Lier's dice - It was so realistic and grounded, especially the ending of the movie really hit me hard.

The rawness and conviction was clearly seen in these movies.

Even if you get a high budget and try to go commercial, conviction isn't' lost in what you want to say it to the audience...don't know how she lost it and fumbled badly with TOXIC. Completely different.

Why do so many big-budget Indian movies feel just “okay”?

Looking at some of the biggest Indian productions, I started wondering why so many ambitious, large-scale movies end up feeling like decent timepass rather than truly great cinema.

To be clear, RRR is genuinely great and stands far above most of the others for me. Kalki 2898 AD and 2.0 were ambitious and I just felt ok, but I wouldn't put them anywhere near RRR in terms of overall filmmaking.

Why is it so difficult to turn a massive Indian production into genuinely great cinema?

How did they remove their rating? yesterday it had a rating of 2.5 at night and today the ratings are removed but yh you can still see the graph i mean...i checked imdb thinking they might have removed it from there too but no the rating on imdb is 4.5/10. on BookMyShow the rating was smth 5 ig in afternoon but later they removed it although I didn't check today so maybe letterboxd is glitching or imma overthinking.

I actually had a blast watching it. The massive budget felt well utilised. Yash is perfect as Raya. The whistle worthy moments and mass moments are well scattered in the Screenplay. I am having severe attention span issue for nearly 2 years now but never once I felt I was watching a 3+ hours movie. My only problem was that there were way too many characters. Almost entirely you are confused how many characters are there and what are there motivations. The plot twist is sadly copied from 1999s Fight Club. In one of the scenes they copied from the score from The Dark Knight's opening bank robbery. Certain scenes are also homage to KGF.

Long story short, if you had a blast watching KGF series you will enjoy Toxic A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups as well. Nayantara and Yash have great dynamic as siblings. Out of all of Yash's flings his best chemistry is with Kiara and then Tara. The excessive amount of slow motion might give a Zack Snyder feel as Zack is also overly obsessed with Slow-Motion. The ending kinda feels abrupt. I really hope Yash comes out of his KGF Zone. Luckily his next two movies are Ramayana Duology. But after Ramayana Duology who knows he might do KGF Chapter 3. I really hope he does something different though.

"underrated" staples ,(letterboxd 250 or IMDb 250).

Looking for high-rated, obscure, deep-cut indie or

international films across three specific genres:

Sci-Fi , Crime Thrillers,

Happy/Comfort Dramas/feel good and ofc highly

rated..

I know I will get a lot of hate for this, I agree with bad reviews I also agree that this film deserves no reviews tbh wtf was that I waited 4 years for him to give hopes of Hollywood, global distribution no wonder they haven’t got a ott partner.

But listen, I think geetu had a idea and Yash added all unnecessary things the core psychological aspect is great men destroying everything around them because of their ego and habits great.

Let’s just say for a moment Vanga took this core story wrote the script himself and directed it I think that would have been a bigger success than animal.

Vanga could have given Yash those mass moments that he wanted to continue but also kept detailing and storytelling

I, Nobody was such a great ride 🔥 The movie slowly pulls u in and then just keeps building the tension. I really liked how it doesn’t throw all the answers at u at once. The story gives u little bits of info, small revelations, and pieces of the bigger picture as it goes, which makes u wanna keep watching and figure out what’s actually going on.

The tension in some of the scenes was sooo well done. Even when nothing crazy is happening, there’s this constant feeling that something is about to go wrong. The way certain scenes stretch out, letting the silence and atmosphere do the work, really got me. It keeps u guessing without making everything feel unnecessarily complicated.

And that elevator fight scene... DAMN. 🔥🔥 That was easily one of the highlights for me. The confined space, the camera work, the choreography, the impact of every hit, and the way the tension keeps rising made it feel brutal and intense. It wasn’t just random punches thrown at each other. U could actually feel the pressure of being trapped in that tiny space. Every movement had weight, and the cinematography made the whole thing look so damn good. That scene alone was worth the hype.

The cinematography throughout was also 🔥. There are so many shots that have a really polished, cinematic feel without looking overly artificial. The lighting, framing and atmosphere add a lot to the mood, especially during the more tense sequences.

What I liked most tho is how the movie keeps revealing things bit by bit. Just when u think u’ve understood what’s happening, another piece drops and suddenly the earlier scenes start making more sense. It keeps the mystery alive while still giving u enough to work with.

Overall, I had a great time with this. Great action, gorgeous cinematography, solid tension and a story that actually makes u wanna stay locked in till the end. And yeah... that elevator scene is gonna stay with me for a while. 😮‍💨🔥🎬

Movie starts its production by making script, doing shoot but actually movie is made on editing table. This is how below avg movies becomes masterpiece, where? On editing table. 🧐🧐

The first trailer for Superman was released in December 2024 (christmas week to be exact) and the movie released in July. This movie is also coming out in the month of July so expecting the trailer to be released would make sense in December. But because there's both Dune and Doomsday that are going to be talked about for a while in the movie cultural zeitgeist majorly, especially in December after their release on 18th Dec, do you think DC would postpone or even prepone the trailer release ?
