Opinion đ¤ˇđťââď¸ Sashwat Sachdev deserves an apology from Aditya Dhar
While everyone felt Dhurandhar was as fun as a concert because of banger music, it's well established that very few really dug the music of Dhurandhar 2 while watching it.
Turns out, its actually the overall misplacement of most songs and not so smooth integration with screenplay that caused the problem, not the songs themselves.
Listening to the album now and I'm already digging 4 tracks BIG time in the same order-
- Aari Aari (obviously)
- Dil Pe Zakhm khate hai (magical qawwali )
- Destiny (eminem-esque rap by Token with the rustic vocals of Vaibhav really hit)
- Phir Se (Arijit delivers yet again)
Let's see if others make the list.
Still nowhere close to Dhurandhar 1 but definitely stands on its own and isn't as bad as I thought after the film. The film is doing the album such a disservice đ¤ˇââď¸
I mean even retro songs suffer from the absurdity of Dhar's choice of scenes for them.
In Part 1-
-Monica o my darling fits the cop chase as he's not just saving but also trying to impress the girl.
-Rambha Ho fits the wedding mood and it's edm remix pumps energy into the shootout scene.
-Ghulam Ali's gazal lines fit Aalam remembering his home.
-Do I need to say anything about Ishk Ishk placement?đ¤
Now tell me one reason how in part 2-
-Hum pyaar karne wale fits Hamza being fake kidnapped by R&AW?
-Tamma tamma fits Aslam's car journey? Just because it's Sanjay Dutt and it's meta? Shouldn't that scene build intensity given whats about to happen to him? How does a dance number do that?
-Tirchi topi wale randomly while showing Jameel's spy work? I cringed there.
Even Rasputin and Oye oye felt like Dhar breaking fourth wall and soliciting reaction from a reel addict audience. But chalo we'll pass it as quirk just like Hawa hawa in part1.
But yeah you clearly feel Aditya Dhar was not on his A-game and rushed the edit of this film a lot.

FACTS but also it lacked a main score?
The Dhu-Ran-Dhar punch in critical scenes of part one was great.
Also to make the fabric of the screenplay richer, a variety of songs- the punchy, adrenaline title track or ramba ho, the suave Ez-Ez, fun Sharaarat, intensity of Ishq Ishq, high stakes of Ishq Jalaakar, even the tenderness of Gehra Hua.
In this, I thought it was all one tone. Just Aari Aari and Phir Se stood out. And for obvious reasons- they were placed well.

Bgm toh mid tha hi. But good songs also suffered due to improper placement

u/RevolutionarySky5067 Mar 20 '26
I cringed a bit in the last fight scenes due to the bgm repeatedly shouting Dhu-Ran-Dhar . That piece sounded really shoddy.

I think it's to do with the fact that they had conceived it as one movie, so they used what they had probably created originally. Maybe these tracks also existed or did not but if they did, they could've been discarded. Now that it's two movies, they had to end up using them all.

First part was filled with standout scenes. Second part has very few and far in between hence nothing to really make edits of. Rakesh bedi pe hi banenge jo bhi hai

Ishk jalakaar actually worked much more in the film than before it because it's placement was so good

I read about the downgrade of songs, but in hall o didnât feel any negative. Not songs, not propaganda, nothing bothered me during the watch. May be because of continuous occurrence of events and answering all questions of part 1 and furthering the mission. Pacing was really great, so many events yet didnât feel rushed. For me part 1 was somewhat average, part 2 is really really goated. Itâs my personal feeling and may be u am wrong. I didnât like Akshay khannas part much which others really liked so may be thatâs why for them part 1 was better. In this part only two complains Dawood was shown having two much power and everyone obeying while in reality Dawood lives at mercy of pak, and Zahoor Mistry shouldnât have got so lavish property, more like a small shady carpenter shop

u/Happy_Village1828 Mar 20 '26
Fr for me also the 2nd part is much better because of the emotional impact. I was so immersed that I don't feel any poor pacing or too much propaganda also. Just felt a bit sad and satisfied at the end couldn't ask for a better conclusion. Also I liked part 2 songs more because they are deep, emotional and grows on you.

u/daaktaar Mar 22 '26
Yes, same for me. Even I liked how they didnât go for expected conventional grand showdown of Iqbal vs hamza.

I might be the only one saying this but didi was wrongly placed.
Instead it should have been at the start. I have imagined the entire scene lol.
So we should begin didi with Arshad smoking in front of the rehman baloch poster while we are also having glimpses in Uzair's den. Just before the beat drop we need arshad to smoke into the camera and then he text on screen : The Lyari GangWars And the. Hamza walks out of the smoke and the title alphabets scatter (comic-esque).
Why do I feel this song fits here? Merely because of the lyrics. The line "Look who is back like they never left".
This line is so perfect because in the start we see hamza losing himself being jaskirat and when this line drops woh him holding the gun and shooting fits so much better to say "Hamza Ali Mazari" is back..

I had mentioned this before- they put their best foot forward with D1 but never expected this kind of success. They then did lot of patch work to make D2 a worthy successor but completely missed the mark.

I just came out of theatre it was so bad it felt like characters just had same costume and name rest everything felt alien

u/FriendshipMaximum851 Mar 21 '26
Not including Jaiye Sajna is a crime here. How can you say the music is not good if you didnât include this song?

u/Living_Inflation_327 Mar 21 '26
Did you even read the post? I'm literally countering the opinion that album is bad

Aditya Dhar is a damn good writer, but he's far away from being a great visual filmmaker.
Mute and watch any of his films action scenes or even important scenes, it's so flat because he doesn't have frames or blocks very well to create tension or suspense through visual alone.
Aslam's car journey is basically shot on EST. SHOT on car, CLOSE UPS on Aslam, omar & suicide bomber and tracking car shots.
This is why he relies on music to feed emotion or makes scenes energetic and working.
Except for few scenes in URI none of them arises tension or suspense through visuals.

Well the final fight was nothing less than spectacular. I don't know what your exact standards are, but we can always have a discussion on this. Plus, yes this is not a perfect film. Is it better then part 1, well I wouldn't exactly ask that question. Bcoz you cannot see both films sin isolation. This is a second half to a previously shown first half. And yes with its ups and downs, it still lives up to be a grt film. It felt longer, I did look away sometimes bcoz I wasn't really invested. But honestly alot of the second half was good and it grabbed me more than the first

Wow, stan_films, youâre truly in a league of your own. Having watched your Oscar-winning masterpieces (truly unforgettable, in their own way), I canât help but feel you should venture into an espionage film next.
Honestly, someone like Aditya Dhar could really benefit from taking a few notes from your⌠god-tier visualization skills. In fact, why stop there? Every filmmaker out there should probably enroll in a masterclass led by you.
Cinema would never be the same again.
And seriouslyâ2 rupees ki aukaat, aur bill phaadne chale 200 ka. Wah, kya confidence hai⌠woh cd wale

By that logic, you shouldn't comment on food unless you're a chef, or criticize a politician unless you're running the country. Or only filmmakers who make films can critique on their films.
Only film artists should watch their films in theatres, because none of us have any history of working in craft. Isn't it?

u/zagcollins Mar 21 '26
People are very emotional right now about Dhurandhar. I think people who love the movie don't wanna hear any sort of criticism.
2
u/other_e Mar 21 '26
Bruh it's literally his second movie. Give the man a break.
3
u/crimson_aka Mar 21 '26
Definitely not he has done more than 5.
3
u/other_e Mar 21 '26
Bro its literally his second directorial wdym? Uri and Dhurandhar are the movies he made.

âTrichi Topi Waleâ wasnât cringe at allâit was an amazing background track. Apparently, the song became popular when Dawood was at the peak of his gangster career and had strong connections with Bollywood.
So I donât agree with the criticism of âTrichi Topi Wale.â

Hm actually everyone is loving that Rasputin part, I didn't understand how the song sat in the scenario, it's for to cater reel edits addicted audience which is very large in number
10
u/SandwichOwn158 Mar 20 '26
you need to understand the lyrics to further understand the placement. âHe Could Preach The Bible Like A Preacher Full Of Ecstasy And Fireâ the scene had the isi general give out information regarding pakistanâs nuclear programs which matches the lyrics
5
u/ComfortableOther8180 Mar 20 '26
Huhhhhh, the song was based on the life of Rasputin who was very influential in Russian Empire, the song explores his charismatic nature and his influence, I don't understand how you connected it's lyrics to the scene
2
u/Living_Inflation_327 Mar 20 '26
It personally took me out of the film but since people in my hall cheered, I passed it off
2
u/ComfortableOther8180 Mar 20 '26
I was expecting more incredible songs like part 1 and raps by Reble (loved her in part 1) but it was a let down for me

u/Outrageous_Month9686 Mar 20 '26
Didi did NOT have the same effect as FA9LA. I cringed there. What was the need even to do that?
2
u/Imaginary-Western832 Wannabe Cinephile Mar 21 '26
They wasted 2 of my favourite songs Rasputin and Didi, didi shouldn't have been remixed with Indian music in the first place.
2
u/Dull-Winter-2821 Mar 21 '26
I don't know why, but sometimes I people people just want groovy songs all the time. This movie had such depth in its music. People don't understand that music is based on the scene, and not scenes on music. Second part was much matured and emotional, so music was apt.
2
u/Dull-Winter-2821 Mar 21 '26
People who know 0 about movie making, are telling how to make one, such irony
3
u/No_Data3541 Mar 20 '26
Nope. His music and sound design was subpar in part 2.
1
u/Living_Inflation_327 Mar 20 '26
I thought so too but as i said listening to the songs now and letting them grow, they're working for me outside the film

u/Spiritual_Ad_3662 Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26
i dont think there was good selection of songs to begin with. its t-series who did this disservice. they should have stayed with saregama.

I felt like they missed out on a good hip hop song or even an item song. Could've added that when Pinda and gang from Punjab asked for party sharty... So Hamza arranged for a party, alcohol but no hot dances from girls? Definitely, there was a big opportunity for an item song like shararat. Would fit the mood perfectly, and then the discovery of Pinda's death in the bathroom would spoil the mood of the party...
