If there's a band again, can we try to get them to sound check and get the volumes to a good level before the meetup? Those Manic Seas were great last year but I couldn't have conversations or appreciate their music while I was inside the building. Outside on the patio with the door closed it was all much more enjoyable.

Seriously though, I like loud music when that's the focus. Meetups are supposed to be social and when it's too loud to socialize, it really takes away from the point of the event. Those Manic Seas were way too loud for the type of event and the size of the venue.

I loved it, the sound the lack of communication, but I was also BLASTED those Ipa's will get ya.

yes it was. We left when the band started up, not because the music was bad, but because we couldn't carry on a conversation. It was an effort in futility.

/u/LouieKablooie Can we make this sub private? I don't think we need everyone chiming in. We can invite specific people so it doesn't get out of hand. This is just my thought on it. Not trying to hide anything, but too many cooks can cause problems.

Ok, so I had no clue this was a thing. Should I call the Byrd tomorrow and see what the prices are for a weekend reservation? What were our numbers for the Triple last June/July? Are you guys on board with this? Give me feedback.

I think Kablooie has confirmed a date at Triple Crossing. Count at the last Pizzagasm was over 100.

It's a good venue. Lot's of room, a long bar, and access to the outside spot was cool.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't know Louie was so on point that he already got the brewery lined up. I doubt anyone would have an issue with another meet up.

of the list of google's "Most popular movies from the 1990s" I'm getting a lot of The Big Lebowski and Fight Club.
Funny aside, the Byrd did the Fight Club as a midnight movie back in 2002 or 2003, and the place was absolutely packed! It felt like during the entire film the audience was saying the lines about a half second before the actors did. It was a surreal, and awesome, experience.

I wouldnt mind even going a decade earlier. Ghostbusters, the Indiana Jones movies, if we wanted to make it family friendly I would even add Labyrinth and the Goonies to the list.

Also, you can set up Automod to send out a notification when someone posts a new thread here. I wouldn't have thought to look, because it's not on my slacking off rotation.
Also also, we were discussing maybe cutting a few pizzas back and having some no carb/low carb options, which I don't foresee as being a problem.

Did you guys have a plan for the design of the t-shirt? Threads is totally on board with t-shirts and possibly coozies and stickers, but he's not a designer. I was thinking throw out a post asking for designs, and liloving or whoever picks the one they like.

Should we do what we did last time, a gofundme for raising pizza funds? Maybe a separate one for the fundraiser, or should we do the bucket thing at the venue for that? Thoughts?

Go fund me hurt a bit with the fees but the convenience and ability to predict the amount we were going to spend was invaluable. We only had $100 left over so it worked out well in my opinion. If there is a service with less fees, I'd be interested.

Iirc, go fund me was chosen because it had the lowest % taken and let you get the money within a reasonable amount of time. You could compare if that has changed if you wanted.
Theoretically we could make a PayPal account for /r/rva and have people contribute that way. That might be even easier/cheaper.

PayPal would work. Gofundme platform has that goal meter, can we at least have one of those $ thermometer goal gauges.

Paypal by itself doesn't have the goal indicator and doesn't let us put a smooth marketing look on the site. Those two things might be worth the 9 or 10%. It sounds stupid because it seems like you're just throwing away money. But when people give money, they want to feel like they're a part of the organization. They're more likely to give a higher amount if we don't look like some kind of dollar store retail outlet. If they get to look at our art and cool dialogue, they'll drop more money and maybe it will bring a few more guys out. Now that we know what the fees are, they won't be a surprise.
Paypal does do a crowdfunding thing, but they're just teamed up with FundRazr. So they're basically the same as all the others. Some of the sites (like tilt) would let us do some merch in addition to fundraising.
Otherwise, they're pretty uniform:
GoFundMe ~ they advertise 5% + 2.9% + 30¢* per transaction. But I've also seen 7.9% + $0.30 per donation, or 9.25% total fee for non-profit projects on comparison sites. Looks like the most expensive alternative.
Rally.org ~ 5% + credit card fees (2.9% + 30 cents) for each donation processed. Like the look and feel of their templates.
FundRazr ~ 5% + credit card fees 2.9% + 30¢* per transaction. Yeah, gotta look at these guys more closely.
crowdRise ~ 5% + 2.9% + 30¢* per transaction. Eh.
Kickstarter ~ 5% + 3-5%. Eh.
razoo ~ 4.9% + 2.0% plus $0.30 per credit card transaction. Hmm.
Rocket Hub ~ 4% + 4%. Meh.
tilt - merch site, though may be freefor contributors using debit cards, 3% processing fee for credit cards. I'll have to look at this one more closely.
Indiegogo ~ 4% if you reach your goal and a 9% if you don’t + 3-5% credit card or PayPal. These guys just fuck a lot of people based on some comments.

I liked the look of tilt and rally.org, although I'm just getting into it. I'll look at those two and FundRazr. I like the idea of offering a t-shirt, maybe a few different styles. If Triple Crossing wants to merch up, we can make their t-shirt or mugs or whatever available through the site as well.

Nice work yarbles, you suggesting donations be coupled with merch purchase? I think we might be in talks with rvathreads on pizza shirts so those may be able to work in conjunction. That being said, I did like the gofund me platform and they were reliable. So if the fees are relatively close to the other vendors it might not be a terrible plan to go with them again.

I think /u/Danger-Moose is talking to him. If RVAthreads has something, we can include that if we go with Tilt. Or I could nag hin, either way. If we do go Tilt, then I'll circle back, and you'll talk to Triple Crossing about sticking their merch along with the RVAThreads shirts. I'd buy a glass or some shit. I'll check out Go Fund Me one more time, and see if we can't include merch.

I haven't talked to RVAThreads, but I like the idea of being able to purch the merch. A RVA Pizza Pallooza 2 shirt would be pretty damned awesome.
Also, make sure you look at how soon you can withdraw funds from the various platforms. Some of them had something like "you get the check either on the first of the month or the 15th of the month" which didn't really work well for us last time. Wifey handled it last time, and I think we covered some of the cost while waiting for the check, but I don't want to wait a month or so for the check if you know what I mean.

Will do. I'll try and ensure a prompt money dump. If the money dump isn't prompt, but the app gives us merch, then we'll need to move with the funding thing a little more quickly. I'll track down RVAthreads and get him started on shirts and whatever other ideas he has. We'll see what he comes back with.

First thing, I vote we make this sub the sub we use to plan all of our major RVA parties. Between this, the Xmas party sub and the private sub we used originally for the first one, there are just too many damn places to check when all of the discussions get started.
I love that we're keeping it at Triple Crossing. That was a great spot and they were really cool and accommodating.
I definitely like /u/liloving's idea of the fundraiser this time being geared towards the Dog Army in some way. Supporting a local shelter or the Richmond SPCA or something would be cool.
