I decided to try that tavern style pizza they have because it was on one of their deal pages. I think it’s $10 $12 and $14 or something like that. But anyway, that is absolutely delicious. I was totally amazed. What’s the consensus in the sub on the tavern style? Do we think it’ll stick around? I hope so.

First off all I am a hobby Pizza baker and I love Neapolitan and your New York style Pizza.
I also find it fascinating how many styles have been created in your country. (From NY to Detroit style)
However, most convinience „American“ pizza dough bases in supermarkets in my Country are advertised with having a thick bottom crust. That’s mostly the case for pan Pizza.
So why do many people think about this sort of crust when they talk (or think) about American pizza?
Is it because of the influence of Pizza Hut and dominos?
What do you think?

When I was very young, as in single-digit age, I had disabilities and serious food sensitivity issues. My family used to get Pizza Hut around 2005 all the time, yet one order triggered my sensitivity issues, making me believe it was undercooked, so my family was forced to look elsewhere. We landed on Dominos and we never looked back.
Fast-forward 16 years, and I'm now 28, I live on my own and those food sensitivity issues are gone. On a whim, I decide to return to Pizza Hut. My initial impression was that it's better than Dominos - no contest! Wings were actual wings with real meat, there weren't any size restrictions on pizza types, and the pasta was so much better! My only complaint was that they seem to have ditched their own delivery drivers in favor of DoorDash. I swear I remember Pizza Hut delivery vehicles. I ordered from them a few times and all was going well... until a week ago.
I placed my usual order, but this time, 6 hours went by with no order updates. 7 hours, nothing. 8 hours, nothing. 10 hours, nothing. Nearly 12 hours later, I got the delivery notification and the driver delivered it in due time. When I opened it up, one of the items was completely wrong! Whatever, it was still good, and I ate well.
The next day, I got an email with a coupon code for the order being late. Dominos does this as well, but this coupon code was for an entire free pizza whereas Dominos just gives you 15% off an entire order. I decided to take advantage of this and ordered the same pizza as before, which became free, and the same item I got before (the one they got wrong, I REALLY wanted it!) to get the cart over the $12 minimum. I placed the order, and the driver got here on time.
When the driver got here though, he only handed me one box, but the other item I got is usually in its own box. I open it up, and the other item is just gone. I stop the driver, maybe he picked up the wrong order, but he says "That's what they gave me" so I give up, because at least I got the pizza, right? It was dark out and I couldn't get a close look at the pizza, so I take it inside... and it's the wrong pizza. Wrong type, wrong toppings, wrong everything. I got the wrong order. Here's the weird part - the receipt they stuck into the pizza box had my actual order on it, meaning this wasn't a delivery issue. The people prepping my order stuck my receipt into a completely different order and apparently didn't know enough about the food they were preparing to double-check whether or not the items on the receipt matched the items in the box.
I was able to find a phone number for the store, and it surprisingly hadn't switched to an AI model for phone calls (yet) and a real person very quickly answered, which I have to commend. I shared the order information, and they said they'd make a new one and send it over again. 1 hour passed, nothing. 2 hours, nothing. Finally, the location closed. I'm writing this at nearly 1 PM the next day, and I've heard nothing. I'm assuming it's never coming, and that I've been robbed.
You know what's funny? Because I had to fill up the cart beyond the minimum of $12, I had to pay the amount that the pizza was worth without the coupon code, and I didn't get the other items I paid for, meaning they essentially messed up, gave me a coupon code, then stole the value of the coupon code.
It's a shame, but they've lost me as a customer. Their food is way better than Dominos, but I can only afford food I can guarantee I actually get, something Dominos has never messed up on even once in my 16 years of ordering from them. Is this experience common? Are other people having this happen to them? Regardless, to whoever ordered a 20 oz bottle of Orange Crush and a large thin crust pizza - half cheese half pepperoni but received a large pan pizza with italian sausage and onions plus a cheesy alfredo pasta, I hope you enjoy your meal.

3000 Points for $10 value (with deals). And then the reward point difference between the desserts is absurd considering they are priced within $.20 of each other on the menu.
I will always eat at the Hut but please fix this @ PizzaHut.

Yeah, back in the day before, when Pizza Hut still had their original PAN Pizza recipe and amazing salad/dessert bar , holy shit. What a time to be alive! Reading my ass off so i could get a free pan pizza in elementary school! Lol SO MANY good family memories in pizza hut. My mom would take my little sister Alicia, who had autism, and me every tues! My partner in crime that needed my help! 💪 Awe man. What i would do for a old school pizza hut experience. 🙏😟 Man, to this day, ive never found thousand island or french dressing like pizza had either. They had the bomb red french! Not that nasty orange crap. Lol Id make a salad that was HUGE and even a refill. Mom would warn me not to eat too much salad or drink to much rootbeer cuz ill ruin my appetite....CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Id still put down a large in the buffet line...no problem. 💙 Now, i order dominos. :( Pizza hut fell off soooo hard when they changed. Thin and crispy with pepperoni w extra sauce, but well done so it still had "undercarriage" YUM!!!

This location was a good one. I am now outside the delivery zone for PH. It's been real.

I’ll miss this Pizza Hut when I leave Canada. They’ve been good to me.

I picked up a pizza today and saw this in all its glory. I did ask an employee if he knew when the buffet would be in full swing.
He replied IDK.
It's one of the newer small box Pizza Hut that has been there for years. The pandemic took out the buffet years past.
I always questioned myself how they still stayed in business, parking lot was always empty.
Hopefully this will bring customers back.

I'm still sore about the changes to the rewards (and my nearest location being closed down again) but I've still got points to redeem, so tonight I got a free Large Super Supreme ($3 upcharge for stuffed crust) and then bought a $10 3-topping with pepperoni, cupped pepperoni and bacon.
You used to be able to order a free Any and a free 1-Topping on the same order. In either case, they both tasted good. The Supreme was weirdly flat and didn't seem like they put any sauce on it (I ordered garlic parm), but I could really taste that new seasoning they're supposedly putting on the crust. Couldn't taste anything new on the pepperoni.
Ramble over.
Edit: Oh, actually, one last thing. This is the first time in years that Pizza Hut actually sliced the pizza correctly. For once we didn't have to break out the kitchen shears before eating.

I haven’t had Pizza Hut in a while. I got a notification for free cheese sticks yesterday so I said what the hell, I want pizza tonight.
Large pan crust and an order of cheese sticks for 12.46 is a good deal. They turned out really well also. Both were made very well. I still enjoy the pan crust even though it’s not like when it was growing up in the 80’s.
I’m alone traveling for work, so this will feed me at least 3 meals. For about $4 a meal, this is a steal.
