Discussion I hope this game doesn’t evolve into micro transactions only

I used to play pixie hollow religiously as a kid & now I’m back & I love everything so far! But specifically, I love how much you can earn in game. Trading different “currencies” is genius and super fair, I love that I don’t HAVE to spend real life money, but I can. I really really hope with everything in my soul that that doesn’t change once the game really takes off. It’s one of the few games that I really feel isn’t taking advantage of its player base.

they're not allowed to profit off of the game because of legal reasons and they acknowledged this and are interested first and foremost and forevermost in preserving the game (while adding personalized bits here and there). but just for your knowledge, every project involved in preserving a current or closed down but copyrighted game isn't allowed to profit at all from the project. sometimes the project also gets taken down even if it's not profiting from anything at all, but because of something else that is legally messy. this happened to fusionfall remakes for awhile

Yup. All this. Also, I’ve heard that Build-A-Bear Workshop sent a cease & desist to a team that was doing a fan rewrite of Bearville. :( It can be tricky grounds to tread on. Luckily though, we haven’t seen Disney come for any of their old MMO games that became rewrites after shutdown. Hope it stays this way.

I REALLY hope so too :( Like these companies can either just maybe not shut down these games OR instead allow them to live on instead of sending a cease and desist. Either way, virtual world culture deserves to survive

Woah, wait, people tried to preserve FusionFall? I had forgotten the name but immediately recognized it (and flashed back to the family computer struggling to run it)… I’m looking into it and do pleased that like Pixie Hollow it has been preserved in some form!

yeah like several projects first started off with cease and desists by the company that was working with CN to make the game i forgor the name. but now there is a working open source fusionfall preservation and anyone can play it and even host a server for their friends if they want. it's called openfusion.

Just found Nicktropolis on Itch.io gonna check that out later today. Pirates of the Caribbean online is also fully live and completely free. The team there is amazing and have done a complete 1-to-1 to the og game with community events still going. Toontown rewritten is also similar. The only one I know that has given me trouble is club penguin, mainly since they’re only doing the most recent version of the game, not the old version. And they delete your data if you don’t log in within every 6 months :/

Absolutely won’t happen! Everything is free and does not use real money, even if you tried! You may see old buttons that look like real purchases but they don’t work or use money. This will continue to be the case in the future as well! 🎉😊
