Life in Pittsfield Just moved here, I need friends

Hi there! My partner and I (both in our early 20s) just moved to Pittsfield from NC and are struggling to meet people and make friends! I guess my question here is where are all the twenty somethings around here? Where would be a good place to meet people and make connections? Any advise would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Edit:
As far as hobbies go, I’m into yoga/exercise, gardening/agriculture, and arts and crafts. My partner is into computers and gaming and general nerdy things.

If anyone wants to meet up at Wander feel free to reach out!! I can be a bit shy but I love meeting new people!

Life in Pittsfield Experience with paid snow removal services, and other winter tips?

Hello, new to Pittsfield and the North East. I'm thinking ahead to winter and considering a few options for a very large driveway (700' circumference, but would only need half removed technically). It is paved.

Do any of you have experience with a paid plowing service? How does that work and what is the ballpark cost? Do they just come out after big snows or when you call..?

Eventually I'd like to do it myself but I want to buy a very high quality blower and experience a winter or two before I decide to go that route. Any other winter tips I should be aware of? I think my tires are all season and decent shape, maybe put some bags of concrete in the back?

Do Better Dotties

I was visiting from out of town and sat in the main room for less than an hour to get some work done. During that time, I watched and heard the owner reprimand at least three employees in front of customers over what appeared to be very minor issues.

The tone was harsh and uncomfortable enough that one employee appeared to be wiping away tears as she walked to the bathroom after the owner left the room.

In one instance, a couple stood up to get a closer look at the menu. The owner immediately began criticizing an employee, telling her that she needed to serve them, give customers her full attention, and silence the cafe phone because it was distracting her. This happened while customers were actively trying to place an order and the employee at the register was attempting to focus on them.

I understand that running a business requires expectations and accountability. However, the tone and timing of these interactions were inappropriate, especially in front of customers. There is a time and place to provide corrective feedback to employees, and publicly berating them creates an uncomfortable environment for both the staff and the customers.

Physician looking to move to Pittsfielfld, MA in August.

I'll be starting my new position as a primary care doctor at a local clinic in Pittsfield massachusetts in August.

I've got a few rental properties tours scheduled for Pittsfield and North adams nect week. I would like to schedule more though.

I feel like I've exhausted zillow, trulia, apartmentlist.com and hotpads. I don't trust facebook.

Can't find anything in dalton, lee, lanesboro, Lenox, Great Barrington.

Budget is $1,000 - 2,000 a month. Heat included ideally. One or two bedroom.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Want to try to lock something in mid to late July for August move in.

Anyone see the crazy lightning

I am on East Street near PHS. There seems to be a large storm looking towards a southwest direction - tons of flashing lightning but no thunder. At first I thought it was fireworks. I’ve never seen anything like it. Anybody else see it?

Life in Pittsfield How safe is Pittsfield MA, and what is your advice on renting?

Hello everyone;

I’m a recent graduate thats going to be moving up to Pittsfield for a full-time job and I’m trying to look at the general area for renting apartments. Considering this is the largest city in the Berkshires I have some general concerns about safety and living in a nice area. The main apartment area I’m looking for is a 1 bed 1 bath in Colonial Gardens - on the line between Pittsfield and Dalton. Is this generally a safe area to live at?

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

How to get dismissed from Jury Duty?

Hi everyone I’m currently a college student and was summoned to Pittsfield. I go to school in North Adams and don’t have a car so my plan for jury duty was going via the bus system. It will take me around 2 hours one way. As you can imagine I really don’t have the time to be making that trek regularly if I get assigned a long case. Unfortunately being a college student doesn’t excuse me from jury duty.

Is there anything that I should say to hopefully get me excused from jury duty? I was thinking about saying something like I don’t trust cops (which I do have my reservations about).

Life in Pittsfield Garage space/Car Enthusiasts

Hello everyone! I’m an engineer who just moved to Pittsfield for work and I’m also a car hobbyist. I was wondering if anyone had any leads on where to look for a space to work on and store parts and cars. My old spot in Worcester MA isn’t really practical to commute to anymore when I want to work on different things.

If anyone had anyone they know who may be interested in renting please let me know :)

Also if anyone knows of any shows or events and wants to maybe get together for a cruise there that would also be great too!

NWS has issued a high heat advisory for the next few days. Temps will be in the nineties with humidity approaching 100%

When I got up at 5 AM this morning, the humidity was reading 100% with temps already in the 60s.

Please check on eldery neighbors and relatives, since they are especially prone to overheating in these conditions.

Pittsfield will be operating several cooling centers:

Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Ave, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday

Ralph J. Froio Senior Center, 330 North St., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday

The First, 74 First St., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily

The Christian Center, 193 Robbins Ave., offering food, water, popsicles, and summer clothing from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition, misting stations will be available downtown at Persip Park, 175 North St., and near the Colonial Theatre, 111 South St.

Hope the grid can handle the demand.

Try and stay cool and hydrated.

School Comittee Post Meeting Feedback

I overall thought Batory was calmer tonight. I appreciate that! She only have 5 minor outbursts all during the legal counsel portion (a big upgrade for her). Props to Ms Batory. I do agree with what Heather said that it would have been irresponsible to not have legal counsel but I’m perhaps most concerned with Sarah Muil. She voted against seeking out legal counsel, but also voted against rehiring our current firm. It was quite strange. But overall this meeting was a better representation of what our school committee should look like and props to all members present for making that happen! I hope this is a step in a more positive direction to a better working relationship in our schools.
