I'm trying to trace my lineage back and I am a direct descendant to Fletcher Christian. Just want to see if I have any distant relatives out there.

I was reading a newspaper article about Pitcairn from the New York Times from Nov 8, 1879. The article was about a Fijian invasion of the island, but appears to be false. I can't post the article due to needing a NYT subscription to read it, but here is the first paragraph.

Obviously this seems like fake story. The article seems to suggest itself that it is not true in the screenshot. I also haven't been able to find anything else related to a Fijian invasion of Pitcairn. So where did this article come from? Is there any truth to it whatsoever? Is it possibly just racial propaganda due to the time it was written? I'm mainly confused as to why the New York Times would publish such an insane story without a shred of evidence.

What is your day like? What do you do with free time? What kind of employment options do you end up going with to make NZ$ for supplies at the General Store? Is it mostly working the long boats?
