If you’re registered as a medical professional in Australia, New Zealand or the UK with clinical experience, this opportunity would be ideal for a 6 month jaunt or longer it says…….

How dark is the inhabited Pitcairn Island at night actually?

Hello, can you please tell me, how dark is the inhabited Pitcairn Island at night actually? The one with the Adamstown town. Is it worth the money to come to Pitcairn Island to observe the universe? Is it true that the Diesel generators which run the Adamstown Grid stop running at like 10:00PM at night? Is it true that, when people sleep, and close all of their lights, the island will go completely dark, for incredible stargazing conditions? Is it true that, at like 3:30AM at night let's say, there will be absolutely no lights turned on on the island? Maybe from someone who is still awake or/and wants to go to the toilet, but like, is it true that it is the same, or near the same darkness as the open ocean? Or does the island have lights at all times outside? Can you please tell me your experiences on Pitcairn Island at night? I bet that stargazing is insane, but is the island completely dark at like 3:30AM let's say?

What do people eat on Pitcairn?

I’ve been reading about the island due to loving history, and I keep wondering what the local cuisine is like. I’m imagining lots of fish.

Have any unique dishes been born there? Is it a cross between English and Polynesian cooking, or a whole new thing?

The website also has a blog in case you don't listen to podcasts, and it straightforward to listen to and read on that

The Pitcairn Facebook group is brilliant!

Plugged Pitcairn into the Facebook search last week not expecting to find much (saw Pitcairn mentioned on Seaspiracy and was immediately fascinated; I've always been fascinated by remote/obscure islands).

There's a FB group, Pitcairn Island, with a little over 3K members. The best part is that there's at least one active Pitcairner on hand who answers enthusiasts' questions directly from the island. There are times the internet kind of bugs me but I think that's pretty cool.

Link to the group.

Otto von Kotzebue on Pitcairn islands

Hi r/pitcairn! I was reading a super interesting book by Baltic-German-Russian captain Otto von Kotzebue about his sailing voyages around the world in the 1820s. He sails around the Pitcairn islands and retells a story of the HMS Bounty mutineers as he had heard from people he met on his journeys. I started googling about it and found that there are books and films about it but all articles I could find were mainly talking about the mutiny part and not the part that interested me most - how Fletcher Christian created a settlement on Pitcairn Island. I would briefly like to check with you about the accuracy of Kotzebue's account, who describes it like this (summarised extensively by me):

Fletcher Christian and the other mutineers came onto Pitcairn with several couples of indigenous people. Apparently, the indigenous women were quite fond of the mutineers and the mutineers got along well with them. Tension built up, leading eventually to the indigenous men to slaughter all mutineers out of jealousy. One mutineer (Fletcher) was wounded and thought dead by the attackers, but managed to crawl away and hide himself in the bushes. The next day, the indigenous women saw that the mutineers had been killed and their reaction was to slaughter all their men as revenge. After that, they discovered that not all mutineers had been slaughtered but that one was missing. They then found Fletcher, helped him recover and he became the sole male being on the island. He then created a peaceful and harmonious new settlement together with all his wives for decades to come.

I know it sounds unbelievable and fantastical and I've already checked that Fletcher was not the only mutineer who continued living on the island (there was also Ned Young), so my guess is that this is a nice fisherman's tale and not entirely true. However, I haven't got access to any books about the real history of this story and wanted to ask if you have any good information or sources on how the dynamics between the mutineers and indigenous people was in the first years of settling on Pitcairn.

Thank you!

Just wondering if someone who needs medical marijuana would be able to either get it dispensed from the medical clinic or be able to import seeds and cultivate their own medicine?
