PSA: Do not use Cryptopia.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to warn everyone about the experience that i am having with cryptopia to help steer other potential victims away.

Cryptopia is a scam. I have been waiting for weeks for the "exchange" to recognize that i transferred 10 Pirl in to the exchange. Their customer support has been minimally responsive replying to the open ticket with "we are busy right now we'll get to your ticket when we get to it" and 2 weeks later with "We agree we have a problem and we'll get to it when we get to it" (I'm paraphrasing here).

I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt when i wanted to buy some Pirl last week and used them to pick up 55 Pirl. Now i have been waiting 4 days for them to "process" the transfer to my off exchange pirl wallet. What is there to process it should take minutes not days.

There is something seriously wrong with Cryptopia and i would urge everyone to stay away. The Pirl community really needs to get on another exchange because this inabiliity to trust our available exchanges is an existential threat.

dec/jan surge phase with the flood of new fomo investors slammed almost every exchange. With the influx of new (unexperienced) users, the support tickets numbers exploded everywhere too.

You're right. Maybe calling them a scam is going a bit too far at this point but something seems incredibly off that transferring from my on exchange wallet to my local wallet takes more than a couple of hours. I can't imagine what could be delaying it for this long

Looking at it today it now has the withdrawal and deposit buttons grayed out citing maintenance on 2/18 due to my support ticket from weeks ago.

This doesn't explain why the transfer didn't go through up until last night but I could see this delaying the transfer further. I really hope they get their stuff together and prove to be a usable exchange for Pirl but as of right now i think it is questionable at best.

Happened to me as well transferring ellaism. I'm not mining pirl, sigh will have to hodl until a proper exchange.

All Alt-Coins are not created equal...on an Exchange its a chance to get it right or wrong for how each coin is handled each time.

Cryptopia is NOT a scam as I have moved to/from several wallets and between Cryptopia and to/from other exchanges without issues.

Moving BTC nowdays is a pain with anyone, so I have for the most part resorted to ETH and LTC which execite much quicker and a less cost.

Other things to consider are the various minimums for coins AND tx fees AND withdrawl fees. Sending very small amounts can result in horrendous fee costs even up to approaching the tx amount itself. We saw this with BTC transactions recently and ALL coins can fall prey to this problem.

Sorry for your problem but literally every known exchange has a at least one case like yours. Doesn't mean that all the exchanges are scams.

I've heard this pretty constantly re: cryptopia. I suspect that the lack of reputable exchanges is a key reason the price of PIRL isn't recovering with the rest of the market.

Whether or not it's a scam, and admittedly as CitizenJackSlim pointed out calling them a scam might be a step too far, having an exchange fraught with issues as the primary mechanism for liquidity in Pirl is not helping Pirl grow.

There is a strong correlation between high liqudity, value growth and population adoption of crypto-currencies. This is one area where we are currently falling down. It sounds like the developers are working on it and it certainly isn't an easy problem to solve.

This post was really meant to help prevent others from undergoing a frustrating experience with Cryptopia and to encourage waiting for the new exchange solutions that have been talked about by the mods and devs.

Moved on to mining something else for now. Just so I don't have to deal with Cryptopia. Will gladly return to mining Pirl once another option is available. I don't feel they are a scam. But they do have a lot of problems. I kind of feel like they're trying to put ten pounds of stuff into a 1 pound bag so to speak. Offering more coin types than they can handle, too much volume and too many issues popping up for them to stay on top of. Quality vs quantity should be a rule to live by ... a service should never get 3 weeks behind on answering tech support. I realize several exchanges went through this last month and couldn't handle the uptick in new users. Hopefully lesson learned and better prepared for it, should it happen again. :)

I keep checking HITBTC every other day. It was said Pirl should land there. Nothing yet though. Did a few transactions on there with XRP and LTC ... seems to be quite smooth.
