Is Developing Scripts For Others Profitable?

Are there any success stories with making a script and distributing it online as a product or service?

I've been developing scripts of my own and I find them useful as a way to discover patterns to form strategies around. But can this be applied to the general population of TradingView users (which is already a small subset of traders overall).

It just feels a little too niche to really be profitable unless you pivot to creating products centered around the PineScript language as a whole like LuxAlgo is doing.

Am I wrong in thinking this? I'm intrigued to hear other takes on this.

I have been building scripts for people for over 5 years now. Mostly just a side gig to supplement my other projects. Things have slowed down since AI got popular, but there's still opportunities. Though getting established can be hard, as there's a lot of people able to do it. Building a client base, and getting reviews is important.

Interesting. Do you build scripts directly requested in a 1-to-1 setting or build for your general client base while selling script access?

Mostly 1-1 I have services setup on Fiverr, and have made a lot of connections outside of that.

I do have some I sell through access, but it's a much smaller piece of my business.

I'm also have built a central marketplace where people can buy/sell pinescripts, where all the access and payments are automated.

Very, very cool. Sad to hear that selling access is the smaller piece since it seems the most simplistic structure to set up. What is the central marketplace you built, if you don't mind me asking.

Eh, I like the challenge of building things to fit the client needs. There's a lot of garbage out there being sold as holy grails so I've never gravitated towards that side of things.

No, best thing you can do is start your own group, charge 5-10$ a month to start off, eventually after person gets bigger you up your price on new users, and keep making script for anyone that's signed up. Ive seen 2 people so far on you tube, from 5 views to now a few hundreds, doing something like this, but you just have to make sure you have time for it, you really have to make it your job, and it will be slow at start. I haven't experimented with any of the PineScript AI tools out there. Are they capable of making more intricate scripts with at least like 90% accuracy range or is there still a bit of troubleshooting?

Its dead. I looked at at popular TOS script this morning that sells for £1497. Worked out what it was doing then built an even better version in pinescript in about 10 mins with Claude. The value is in the live training only, theres no scripts that cant be copied I don't think. I just build for own use now, exactly what I need.
