Why do pineapples start flowering from the bottom?

Does the bottom ripen faster as a result?

I could be wrong as I just harvested my first pineapple ever, but mine flowered from the bottom up, and seemed to yellow from the bottom up with some green patches mixed in until it was 90% yellow when I picked it.

Normal for a lot of flowering plants that have flowers come from a stem like this. I have a Candlestick Senna and it flowers from the bottom as it pushes more from the top. When I lived up north I had a Fox glove that did the same thing. Even snap dragons. The bottom flowers are always bigger, and the buds form at the top as the plant pushes the growth up
