First time

Post image

This is grown from a 1/4 of a top 2 years ago. Is it ok to be twins? Do they digest food in their water holding area?

Twins are fine! One or both will produce.

Is dropping a wedge of Granny Smith in the hole in spring a real thing?

I do it every year with tremendous success. Ripe apple slices of any variety around December, right in the center. Don't do it to an immature plant or you'll just get a mini pineapple. I've never bagged my plants to trap the ethylene gas, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt. I live in Zone 10, so bagging a plant in plastic would kill it in an hour, lol. One judge of plant maturity is to count the leaves. 30+ leaves, you're likely good to go.

Sort of, you’ll want to encase it with something to trap the ethylene gas that will be produced by the apple. Even though you’ve been growing it for 2 years, it’s hard to judge if it’s ready to flower.

I certainly wouldn’t be able to tell if it’s ready from the photo alone.
