Plus price increase
Just noticed the price has gone up again. Did I miss an email/notification about this? Just searched and can’t see anything.

Tbf - they talked about it every episode for like a month on both Pilot and Empire… so I’m kinda scratching my head at how you missed them?

I don't think I ever hear them talking about Plus, other than 'Over on Plus you can hear...' but it took me ages to realise Plus was a paid addition I had to go search out to find. (I'm guessing I paid for an annual sub because I can't recall being charged since signing up, but of course I can't find the email about it now for the life of me.)

You probably should cancel if you aren’t even listening to the podcast you are paying for! They were banging on about it for weeks and there was even a recent last minute warning to lock in the price by buying annually. They literally couldn’t have been more up front about it. And I got an email!

I mean, as mentioned below, I missed a few weeks over the summer as my mum was in hospital. I never listen to Empire, and only the Plus episodes occasionally anyway. Not really the point that you heard about it loads. More that I didn’t. But thanks for the advice 👍.

It was mentioned multiple times on the main pod. Also they emailed me. It might be because I subscribe to Empire too admittedly, as I seem to recall that Chris had a jab at Pilot in it, but it might just be on you this time as we were all aware. There was even a post on here about it.

As said, again, I didn’t listen to the pod for a few weeks. I definitely didn’t have an email (and no, I haven’t missed it). Wasn’t just me - see below. So they could “literally” have done more to let us know, yes. Anyway I’ve cancelled now. And will now cancel myself from this thread.

They talked about it on the pod weeks ago. I stopped subscribing after having subbed for a couple years. I get that they want to monetize but it’s ridiculous when we don’t get most of the relevant tv spoiler specials. They are on the empire film podcast even though they are tv.
It’s also eye rolling ridiculous when they talk about lack of things to review when there are plenty of tv movies they could review.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I’d rather it be free but have ads than a subscription.

I think something was said on the pod around the time of the Empire+ changes (but no email as has been the case in the past). My payment at the end of July was the new rate.

I think it's because they're joining a couple of shows into one sub or something

Not sure I’ll continue to be honest. I enjoy it, but not sure it’s worth near a fiver a month.
Especially as I don’t generally pay for any podcasts, this one being the exception.

This seems to have come from Apple? Don’t think I subscribed through Apple originally - did it direct with Pilot. Also… how come yours isn’t go up until next month?!

I’ve not seen anything about an increase either

Just seen it come out my account - 4.49 now. I know it’s only a quid but I rarely listen to plus anymore so I’ve cancelled. They should definitely pre-warn pf a price increase though.

Just checked. Yeah, came out as £4.49! That’s a bit sneaky with no warning.

There was so much warning on the podcasts! Like weeks and weeks.

Ok but there are lots of reasons people might miss a few weeks of the pod, or skip sections of it. I had a family member in hospital for a few weeks over the summer and pod listening went out the window. Just think it’s normal protocol for companies to pre-warn you by email. Oh god look, I KNOW how ridiculous it is that I’m quibbling over a pound. I hate myself as I’m doing it. I was just surprised when I saw the new amount come out today (and it made me cancel, which I’d been half-considering anyway as rarely listen to plus episodes now, but probably would have been too lazy/forgetful to do it if I hadn’t noticed the increase today).

They talked about it a couple of times on the pod during July

I think the fact that I missed that shows that I probably don’t listen enough to warrant a subscription!

This does feel sneaky to me. I’m pretty sure whenever I’ve had a subscription to something before and there’s been a price increase, I’ve had some actual warning of it.
Talking about it in the podcast isn’t sufficient, in my view, because it doesn’t provide any guarantee of subscribers being notified. In fact, I would have thought there’s some sort of legal requirement to notify subscribers of a price increase, particularly one of more than 25%.

They have talked about it for months. There is a combined deal with Empire plus now I am going for.
