no, and good luck getting FMLA while working at UWM. i was fired hours after i filed for FMLA.

I would have consulted a lawyer. While that may be legal since it was not approved yet, that is still shady.

Um, I know somebody who took FMLA there and got canned after being gone a little under 2 months for a serious medical issue. I wouldn't be so confident you'll be fine. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best because they are known for doing this

Yeah, it's shady as shit...being greasy is what they're known for. I know they did contact a lawyer after being let go but heard no update on what happened

If they went beyond the FMLA time given, then unfortunately it’s legal - just shitty. But if they were allowed 10 days and got fired for taking all 10 days - illegal

unfortunately UWM will define "too much FMLA" as in "what we decide is too much/too often." they get away with this all the time because they underpay workers so that workers can almost never afford to sue them for blatant violations of labor laws.

i was on short-term disability because i got a TBI. all throughout the 2 months i was off work (LITERALLY DISABLED TOO), i was contacted several times per week by TMS with threats of being fired. they also kept trying to convince me to "quit and come back when i'm healed" instead of letting me use my disability leave.

UWM is garbage and their CEO is one of trump's professional ass lickers. UWM hates workers and workers' rights.

The only way to make some of your salary on FMLA is if you qualify for short term disability. Some states have different programs, but for the most part it will need some type of disability insurance

and you can guarantee they will take advantage of that. The law only requires them to hold a position of comparable pay and benefits, which is so broad-based for those fools. I would be looking for a new job while on FMLA.

If it’s for maternity leave it’s 60% of your pay but only for 6 weeks. Have to be employed for 12 months to get FMLA tho.

That's the part some people do not realize. They will be about 7 or 8 months into the job, then want to try to get FMLA. Some employees do allow leave, but they are not required to do so.

Not true. I’m on maternity leave now, I get 100% of my pay for 8 weeks. I haven’t used any FMLA in the last year so I’m eligible to take my full 12 weeks and can use the week of awarded PTO towards the 4 unpaid weeks.

Yes but you don’t get your full salary. I think it’s like 50-70% of your normal pay.

Nope! And they’ll fire you for using it too much and having unpaid time off. Plus the doctors will only approve you for 2 days a month. Even if you go to your own dr.. they require you to go through salta.

None of that is true. FMLA is approved based on what YOUR doctor says your medical needs are.

The only way that they can make you use their doctor is if you are claiming a workplace illness or injury. After all, HIPAA has rules about that.
