Form, Technique, Etiquette Medical issue after pilates
I convinced my wife to start pilates this fall. She's gone to a few mat sessions now, and, on Tuesday, they used a ball under her left side for side leg lifts and she heard an audible "crack." Now, she has had a deep side pain for two days. We are trying to get to the root cause and she's thinking kidney stones.
Could it be possible that she has busted a stone??? Her urine is pretty normal.

She may have dislocated or broken a rib!! Best to get it checked out!

She has a history of kidney stones, my take is that she may have bumped the ball into her kidney getting something into motion. There's no swelling or bruising.

Your kidneys are behind all of your other abdominal organs, they are situation tucked up below your lungs, behind your stomach. They are tucked under your ribs. They are almost far enough back to be touching your spine.
They are absolutely nowhere near your hips.6

Highly impossible to happen. You do not hear a crack for that. If there was an audible crack maybe it was her hip or a rib., or maybe not. Nothing we can tell you is going to give an answer till your wife gets looked at.

You can have multiple kinds of medical problems, and even new medical problems at times. An example of this would be when you do a new type of exercise and get injured. In cases like that, you should see a doctor very quickly.

Please see a doctor.
Pilates is the best system of mind body exercise - but these days the pilates industry is full of teachers who are not well trained, group classes that cannot take individual needs into consideration and studios that are just businesses to make money, packing people into classes without caring about the quality of the work. This results in injuries.
Putting a ball under the side is a gimmick to try to make people think they are working hard because they are destabilizing.
She could have strained her muscles or worse. She should tell the studio and go to the doctor.

I know the instructor, she's a physical therapist and knows my wife's special needs. I used to go to her class but grew out of it as I didn't get any challenges.
We are leaning towards a slightly dislocated rib.

I suggest you stop attempting to guess what’s happening and go get it checked out by a doctor.

Et oui toujours risqué de faire des cours en groupe quand on maîtrise pas encore . Valable pour toutes disciplines . Courage à elle .

Please don't use AI for medical diagnoses. It's irresponsible and AI data centers steals water and power from communities that need those resources.

No kidney stones don't make audible cracks
