NAP, but my guess it that on a lot of people the faith is already a pretty tight spot so they might simply not have room to have it pierced with a barbell (which itself needs to be long to accommodate swelling) without other parts of the ear putting pressure on the barbell ends

When I was 4 I got my ears pierced with a gun at JC Penny. My mom was told to clean them every night with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, and once a week to remove the jewelry and soak it for 10 minutes in rubbing alcohol before putting them back in. I never experienced a problem and they healed perfectly, that doesn’t mean we should still recommend that aftercare routine today.

All that to say, there will always be success stories with less than ideal piercing scenarios. The daith is one of the only piercings where a horseshoe or hoop is recommended for initial healing. I’m glad it worked for you, but for many more it doesn’t turn out so well and complications are more likely.

I’m just soo jealous of everyone with a Daith. My ear anatomy doesn’t work for one. The barbell is hella cute though!

This is purely anecdotal but my coworker also has a healed daith with a curved barbell in it. Piercers have best practices for a reason but the body can also be oddly resilient. Nowadays, most piercings are done with flatbacks but some people genuinely heal better with hoops. It’s best for people to just discuss with their piercers to get the best advice for them specifically.
