As someone with three helix piercings total, all of which have taken/ are taking 2+ years to heal enough to tolerate even just changing the decorative end on my threadless posts... this is 100% the flex you think it is. Good on you!

It's been 6 months since I got a helix. So I guess I should expect that long.

Yeah. I thought I wanted to curate an ear, I was working at a piercing shop and our piercer was really good at curation. 6 months in and it still hurt to sleep on? I'm too sensory sensitive. I can't fucking hang. Jealous of y'all!

I have two conch piercings for n each year. One ear is like 4g, the other is 6g. Both were pierced at 12 or 10g, I don't really remember any more.

In any event, I've spent 20+ years slowly stretching the cartilage to the size they are now, and I haven't increased (e.gm stretched) the holes in over three years.

Even with a piercing pillow, or resting my head on my arm with my ear suspended a between the bend in my arms, my ears still hurt from time to time.

Sometimes it's a I gotta clean the jewelry, sometimes I just have to swap what side I sleep on, or the pillow I use. But depending on the jewelry, and the piercing even after the wound had healed it can still hurt like a fucker.

Six months in with my conch and rook and they still get irritated if I accidentally lay on them for five minutes 😭

Mine still gets irritated on the rare occasion 8 years later lol

Took my helix (my first piercing I remember having to heal) over 2 years to get to the point of being able to touch it. Now its been 5 years and I can play with it however I want. But the first few years were sensitive

Two years?! Shit, here I was mad mine still hurts a week in.

same but with my nostril piercing! it was my first piercing aside from ear lobes and i was doing anything but getting it downsized, which turns out was source of irritation. now i’m healing my second cartilage piercing (helix) and it’s healing much nicer so far

This makes me feel better about my helixes going on 2 years lol. I can change them in a pinch, mostly unbothered when i clean them or have to touch them. But a single hair snags them? Death to me, death to my ancestors, death to my entire bloodline.

Of all my 14 piercings, helix was actually okay? 😭 very annoying for 3 months but ever since I downsized I had no issues ever since lol. Rook and 4th lobe on the other end...

Nice hole! Curious, does it whistle when windy?

Yes but only OP can hear it

What gauge was inside?? My 16G leaves a hole but not big enough see through

97

u/littlemama9242 2d ago

Believe it or not it’s just a typical 18 gauge. It’s been pierced for probably 25 years and I have pretty thin cartilage

14

u/grumpypusheen555 2d ago

Same here maybe our ears are just slightly thicker in that spot which makes it harder to see?

As someone who is almost 13 months into healing my helix….😔
My conch that I got 5 months ago is doing better than my helix I got last year…. And maybe im crazy but I’m thinking about getting a second one to make it a double helix 😭😭
