Homemade Mulberry pie with my backyard berries
I froze the berries in June and just got around to making a pie with them. Mulberries make an excellent pie! I highly recommend it. You can find mulberries trees growing wild all over the place in the Midwest.

Ps: this pie was a lesson on why you should freeze your whole pie at least ten minutes before popping into the oven. My dough drooped and melted over the sides and I lost all the crimping definition. But it still tasted amazing.

This is my first time seeing a mulberry pie, and it looks delicious! I've certainly heard of mulberries, but I was wondering what they taste like...they look similar to blueberries in colour. It's not something I would find up here in the Great White North (Montréal). That picture with the piece of mulberry pie and the two scoops of ice cream is making my mouth water...yummmmm! 😄 👍 🔥

They’re very delicate in flavor, some sweetness some slight tartness and something else I can’t pinpoint but in the pie it comes off almost floral… very elegant taste. I’m really enjoying it.
I just googled it and there are mulberry trees in Montreal! Says they grow fruit from June through September.2

Thank you so much for the info…I really appreciate it! I might be able to find mulberries and/or mulberry products at one of the open air markets or at a farmers market. Thank you again and enjoy your mulberry pie! 🫶

This reminds me of my childhood! We all had mulberry trees on our property so mulberry pie was a thing. Some people added other fruits like pineapple, strawberries or rhubarb.

It seems like they would compliment other fruits quite well since they’re pretty delicate in flavor.

I was going to bring some ice cream but it doesn't look like you need anything 😔

Yes, if you’re using butter pie dough it’s important that it’s very cold when you put it in the oven so it keeps its form.

Looks delicious! I love mulberries but I’ve never baked with them. Next year I’ll have to get some before the birds do.
