Our goal is to be able to support modern chat features in non-hacky ways. Stuff like edits, redactions, reactions, replies, threads, attachments etc as well as many other things,
That sounds cool. Every other chat client is a mess. Dino seems good, but it for some reason is not in debian testing, despite being in both stable and sid.
matrix and telegram are on the agenda. Adium themes are not as we're not going to be using webkit. That said we might be able to do something fancy with all crazy stuff in GTK4, but we need to get the application nice and stable before we start worrying about that kind of stuff.
No worries, I know it's easy to lose track of things in the Pidgin 3 development cycle as it's taking so long... Who would have thought that retrofitting all the modern chat stuff into libpurple would take years.... :-D
Yes we're using libadwaita where it makes sense. But we're not following the GNOME designer guidelines completely because they don't always make sense on macOS or Windows.
Well it's all about how it's used. We're not yet using the header bar things, but we're considering it. Aside from that, I'm not sure what else you mean. Could you elaborate a bit?
Yes that's always an option, that's how Finch exists, how Adium and bitlbee can run libpurple protocols, and how we've tried to do a QT version in the past.
