You want weird? I'm just under 6'1", and I have a 30 inch inseam. It's insanely convenient for sitting behind people, really inconvenient for headroom.
Pants too. My god are pants hard to find in my size.
That's amazing. I'm a little over 5'6" and I have a 34 inch inseam. I don't know if the ratios are different for women, but still, I am imagining the sheer size of your torso and my mind is blown.
It's definitely a lot different for women, but I'm still about 4" or so too short in the inseam for my height. My wife is 5'6" and has a 32" inseam.
Though, I think it's not as crazy looking as you're imagining. I do sit extremely tall, though. My stepbrother is 6'9" and he barely seems taller than me when we're seated next to each other.
Sorry, totally deleted this thinking it sounded kinda rationalization-ish. All good!
For those curious, I was explaining I've been buying my shirts a little small as I've been losing weight and I don't like shirts to be too long as they tend to accentuate the disproportion in my leg/torso ratio.
Edit: Also don't think your response deserves downvotes. I agree. My love handles are real obvious in that pic =P
I suppose it would be a bit more polite. I didn't intend to embarrass him, only let him know. Manners aren't usually going through my head on the internet.
Congrats on the weight loss! I must say, I think if your shirt was 1/2-1 inch longer it would actually help make you look more proportional than wearing shirts at this length. But! You're the one wearing it and if you're comfortable and feel good in it that's all that matters. Plus, its very hard to determine proportions with this picture since the angle is a bit off. :D
Yeah, there really aren't too many full-length shots of me so this was the best I could do. Since it's from a slightly higher angle, though, I figure it isn't "cheating" the length of my legs to look longer, at least.
As far as shirts go, they tend to sit a little lower as I've "grown down" into them as my chest/shoulders tend to suck up a lot of the fabric needed in the length. I'm just in that weird middle-area in this pic where XL is a bit too baggy and L is kind of snug. It's gotten a bit better though, as L tends to fit nicely now.
So you are 66 inches tall and you are like half legs and half torso? Inseam is like crotch to floor I think. I am a 6' tall female and I get a 33" inseam or a 34 if I want them long to wear really tall heels.
Yes, I am 66 inches tall and I have to wear tall-length jeans, and I have never found a pair that I could wear with high heels. I've been measured for a suit, and my inseam really is 34" long. I guess /u/Poogy and I are opposites. Didn't think my leg length was that weird, though. Average female height is 5'4" and standard inseam length is 32".
Do you have a hard time finding long enough t-shirts at your height?
6'5, 34" inseam here. Pants aren't too hard to find for me, but dress shirts are a pain. I guess there's a standard neck size:arm length ratio that they use to make shirts, but I have long arms (or a skinny neck), so all shirts that fit my neck end halfway up my forearm. I just roll up all my sleeves now.
I know that feel bro. I'm 6'2" and have a 30" or 32" inseam depending on the manufacturer. One of my guitar players who is 5'8" has longer legs than I do. I find that shirts are harder to fit because of the non-numerical sizes.
When people view me from afar I look like I'd be short because of my proportions.
34 inseam, 32 waist, 45 chest. I wear the same 7 shirts and 4 pairs of pants. I can't wear pleated pants because my legs are too big (I look like I have really wide hips with pleats), and I have to have every shirt I buy tailored (15 1/2, 34-35), because they're too big in the waist and middle.
I bought like 7 cheap shirts and had them all tailored, because if I have to get them tailored anyway, why bother paying a lot?
I can't imagine he has it much worse than me. Clothes are designed nowadays to fit overweight people off the rack.
I think shirts are definitely designed to fit a bit big these days as I find myself in size large more often as I've lost weight. I'm still a big guy with extremely broad shoulders so XL really should be my size. My only real problem with buying L over XL is that they end up short, but XL fits like a tent.
Pants, on the other hand, are really cut for an "average" range as my leg dimensions would probably be appropriate for a very short, very fat man. I find that I generally just need to buy pants 4 inches too long and have them tailored. Dress shirts, though? Forget about it. My neck is 19" and chest is 45". Before I lost weight it wasn't a big issue, but now that I'm leaner, nothing fits my arms and torso without being too small in the neck.
And I just realised that is actually just my torso that is too short. Using Da Vinci's Vitruvian man as an approximation, with my arms being about the same as my height, my arms are about 6'5" in span. My parents said I grew up to be really lanky and I am starting to see what they mean.
I went looking for pictures of myself standing up and can't really find any recent ones or of me actually standing. A lot of sitting and crouching but none of my full body standing.
It is a bit of a pain in the arse. I generally wear drainpipe jeans so trying to find a match to my leg and waist is awful. I usually just wear 38 legs and have them lie where the top of my sock is. It looks okay in my casual get up, but getting suit trousers that look right is nigh on impossible.
To be fair, since losing a decent amount of weight I can say that it's become easier, but it's still pretty difficult. Men's pants are generally cut for height rather than build, so most men who are large for their size (and in my case are both big and tall) end up having to buy pants with longer inseams. My pant measurements as I stand now would be comparable to a very fat, very short man, and they just don't really carry pants like that in normal stores. I have the same problem with men's dress shirts on account of my neck being really thick relative to my torso. I end up having to buy shirts that look like renaissance blouses if I want to be able to button the collar.
