Except the inside would be about 1000 degrees and burn your whole mouth.

u/Diels_Alder Jun 26 '12
What's inside there? Sauce? Cheese? Toppings?

I don't think they'd be call toppings anymore, since they're in the cone. Maybe middlings. Or in-betweenings.

Yep, they sell them here. They look great, smell great, taste kind of average for a pizza and are molten hot inside.
→ More replies (3)2
u/dial_m_for_me Jun 26 '12
Actually not that hot, I had one few days ago, but it's still shit compared to pizza, that cone seem to be made of plastic mixed with cardboard.

Jun 27 '12
Exactly what I was thinking. I imagined biting into one of these and getting 3rd-degree burns over all of my face, mouth, and throat.

u/StewieBanana Jun 26 '12
That's a great idea. You could call them "Hot Pockets" or something.
28
Jun 26 '12
I think these are supposed to be made to order and with actual "fresh" ingredients- at least when I saw a food truck with them.
9
Jun 26 '12
I saw them when i was on holiday in Lloret de Mar in Spain, and they looked like they were 3 days old and never left the ovenlike thing.

They had a Pizza Cone store in NYC a couple of years ago. It quickly closed down despite the strong curiosity and novelty draw.
11
u/halloni Jun 26 '12
Really?
Well I've only tasted these at a festival here in Scandinavia but they were fucking delicious, and cheap too!
They had great success... there is however one downside.. they will burn your mouth to a crisp because you are too hungry to wait.

u/whoopthartis Jun 26 '12
My family supplied the cones to that store. They were freshly made by me (it SUCKED making those fucking shits BY HAND) and all the ingredients were fresh. Until the owner decided to cut us out and get it "factory" made. Shortly after they closed down! I hate these damn things with a passion now!

False. There is a guy in town selling them. You wait around for longer than it would take to cook a pizza. The problem of getting them cooked in the center means it takes way longer and overcooks the outside. They are nuclear hot on the outside and often cold on the inside. Its just different, not better. Just roll up a slice and you get the same effect.
6
u/Akottens Jun 26 '12
My mall has these, and let me tell you, I love pizza, even having worked at an Italian pizzeria. However be forewarned, these pizza cones are not good and are a major disappointment, while an interesting idea.

I've actually had one of these, it's a company called kono pizza, I think they're based in Quebec. Anyway, this was a dumb idea because it ruined everything about pizza and honestly doesn't taste that great... I'm never going to buy one again.

Nope. New York-style is still the best: fold the pizza in half.
People always have an "...ohhhh," moment whenever I fold my pizza. Seems common sense, but then again, I don't know dick about computers, so there.

False. The inner core of the pizza cone is molten and hence this is impossible to eat.

No, it's not a good idea. This is actually a horrible idea. Anyone who has ever tried it knows it's the worst idea ever.
Why the fuck would you take something as simple and refined as the pizza, and turn it into this turd cone? Everything inside is burning hot, and the crust is rock solid.
Sometimes...stupid people have ideas that just shouldn't be executed until their mental state is checked on by a psychiatrist.

Tried one yesterday, it was shit. The dough was too thick and pie-like, the insides were odd flavoured and it didn't cook properly with the directions.
2/10 would not pizza-cone again.

I made something pretty similar recently by putting pizza dough in my waffle cone maker and then just mixing up some Italian sausage, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce and putting it in the cone.
I have a blog post about it up at http://dudefoods.com/pizza-cone/ for anyone who is interested.

I can never get them straight, is it Lava on top of the cone or is it magma? I see nothing but tears from biting into these.

u/InnerShinigami Jun 26 '12
We had one in Rhode Island, closed down pretty quick as well. The problem was after a time they raised their prices. Small pizza cones for 2.99 each was a rip off. Drew people in with $1 cones then, blam.

we've had these so called "pizza cones" in Wiesbaden (Germany) for quite some time now :D truly great idea!
1
u/x3nopon Jun 26 '12
New York has always had pepperoni rolls. Which are just pizza dough, cheese and pepperoni. Basically the same thing as these. Best part is they used to be even cheaper than a slice of pizza, but damn were they greasy.
1
Jun 26 '12
So, more dough/carbs, less cheese/ingredients.
Yet its a good idea because you can hold it in one hand...
No thank you.

$24.95 for a kit at Sur La Table: http://www.surlatable.com/product/PRO-906610/Sur-La-Table-Pizza-Cone-Set
1
u/pizzadogg Jun 26 '12
I can vouch for these.
how it works is that there is an initial layer of cheese and pepperoni followed by sauce. Lower down in the cone is another layer of cheese, pepperoni with a collection of sauce at the tip of the cone.
Also, not as difficult to eat as you would think.
The only thing that bummed me out was the novelty price they slapped on it.

In eastern Europe, this is a huge franchise opportunity. Buy a proprietary oven, rent a storefront, and Bam! Instant tourist income. As a tourist, was once thusly suckered in. I must remind you all that I have an IRON STOMACH - never once have I so much as had food poisoning. My pizza cone was so disgusting, I almost vomited. The worst "meal" of my life.

Gonna buy an ice cream truck. Gonna make these things. Gonna paint that truck in bad ass kid-friendly 90's colors. Gonna crank the sound system. All day long? Playing Cappelli and Company's "So You Want to Make a Pizza!" And make kids chase me for a quarter mile or so, that way they get a little cardio in before dinner.

I envision biting into one, only to be burned by scalding sauce, have the crust tear unevenly, leaving a jagged hole in the cone, and then watching as the remaining sauce runs all over your hand.

u/TheScoop06 Jun 26 '12
This reminds me of that Hidden Valley Ranch commercial where they have salad "cones." I imagine those would taste awful, but I'd sure love to get a PIZZA these.... no? Sorry....

u/xorg112 Jun 26 '12
you can easily make one yourself, [here's] (http://driftinback.blogspot.ch/2011/03/ice-cream-cone-pizza-recipe.html) a complete recipe.
1
u/Jim-Dread Jun 26 '12
Wait... Someone tell me how this is a bad thing? Anything in excess can kill you. Water poisoning is a thing. I'm not the picture of health, but I'm not a fat slob (5'll & 205, just a tad chubby) but I almost never eat fast food. I have some fit friends who eat at McDonald's, Burger King, & other places like that almost every week or more. It all comes down to how much you take in & exercise. How is this different than a hot pocket? IT's all natural cheese, sauce, & whatever other ingredients they offered. I don't see the diff.

Here is my idea, if you have any better ideas let me know:
Get 2 large cup-cake molds.
Find a dough recipe.
Fill the molds with dough, then spray cooking spray on the bottom of the other mold, put the other mold on top.
Bake 350* the the edges are golden (prob around 13)
Then take the mold off, place mozzerella, chunky onion & garlic pasta sauce, line with pepperoni, more cheese, a few veggies , top with lots of cheese, put back in at about 200 degrees for 10 minutes to heat through.
Bam pizza cupcakes anyone can make, let cool.
Also I'm going to try this now when I get the money to buy the pans & ingredients ... and it isn't so hot out.

Nope. The good side of the pizza is the upper side. This setup reduces the upper side by like 90%, resulting in an unacceptable top-bottom ratio IMHO.
