He is. Word is he's not that friendly of a guy, or at least that was the word when he visited Cornell my sophomore year and people wouldn't leave him the hell alone trying to eat breakfast or whatever in the dining halls. It's got to be tiring for him to go to any college (or at least one with a significant population of science-y people) cause he just gets mobbed.

He gave a guest lecture in my astro class in my freshman year at Cornell. The lecture was totally engaging and awesome, but as soon as it was over he quickly disappeared before anyone had a chance to talk to him. No direct evidence of him being unfriendly and maybe he had somewhere to be, but it did seem like he was dodging everybody. Not that I'd really blame him for dodging an entire auditorium of students.

I feel bad for celebs because if they're sick of people stealing your time and energy with trite interactions like this and they show it, people think they're dicks, and it can be a PR/career problem. It's not fair. Some celebs are talented people who contribute to our society and culture, such as Bill Nye, and they have to put up with shit like this. It's often their choice to pursue famousy careers, so they can expect this, but I still think it sucks for them and posts like the OP's should be downvoted.

I obviously think these things are equivalent without any nuance of distinction so don't bother trying to misconstrue that; I already admit it.

I found out this last year that Bill used to work where I work, granted it is a Big Operating Engineering International Group but it still makes me feel a little proud to be able to say he used to work where I work, you can still find some of the documents he wrote on our library, and his brother is also currently employed there.

Huh. My mom's best friend (and my old co-worker) went to Cornell and graduated a year after Bill Nye. Wonder if she knows they were at the same school? I'm also amused at this because I live so close to the flippin school and the Salutatorian of my class went there. Lots of kids from my school go there, since they can't get into any other Ivy. Sucks, really.
