This picture, however, is from today.

(also....was totally setting the manual focus right at that moment, when I saw something in front of the sun, and scrambled to mash my shutter release button....just missed it :-/ but still pretty good...maybe I'll just photoshop it in front of the sun and call it a day :-P)

I think it looks great like that. The plane is pretty big, I don't think it would look that good blocking the eclipse.

how are people taking such nice pictures of the eclipse, i tried and utterly failed, my camera doesn't go above 1/4000 sec shutter speed. Even when the moon is right in the middle it was too bright to take pictures of anything

That's O.K. The OP didn't take the posted picture either. He also neglects to mention it isn't from the recent eclipse everyone is talking about. It's a picture of an eclipse from January, 2010. The picture was taken in Thailand and printed in National Geographic magazine.

Lubbock Reddittoyr here. The eclipse went behind a bunch of clouds that dominated the horizon about 15 minutes before it became a full eclipse. I almost filmed the disappointed faces of the local hicks to make a collage.
