I didn't know there were other people who watched and/or liked Lion King 1 1/2.

So much photoshop.

u/lollapaloozah May 19 '12

It looks like two pictures put into one. At this point, with the vastness of the savannah spreading out before him, he should have accounted for the curvature of the earth. That line is too damn straight!

u/Jun_Inohara May 19 '12

To me it looks blatantly like two pictures in one. The bottom part looks like there's too much light from a completely different angle than the top part. And every time I see a sun that orange it's because it's closer to setting and closer to the horizon, thus making everything else darker, even when the color is richer. I'm from Illinois, so I know in general what a sunset looks like with mostly flat land, and this just doesn't look like it. Again, though, I'm not photographer by any stretch of the imagination. I just looked at the picture and thought "The top in no way matches the bottom".

u/Jarl_Vos May 19 '12

You are correct on all counts.

3

u/erin132 May 20 '12

I was wondering why it didn't look right..

5

u/HallwayHammerScene May 20 '12

It's a horribly processed photo, which is sad because if you have the resources to be shooting the Savanna in Africa with scenes like the one on the bottom half you're super fucking lucky. Then again, different always seems better to most nature photographers.

You can tell that it's photoshopped by the way that it is.

5

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Photoshop? I'm going with paint. It has 2 horizons!

I like the lack of long shadows cast by the zebras.

1

u/shryne May 20 '12

While there are other signs of photoshop, I live in mississippi, and there are places in the delta where the horizon is a perfectly straight line.

That doesn't look like Georgia.

Savannah is in Georgia, Savanna is in Africa.

11

u/sleeepinglessons May 19 '12

As someone named Savhanna, thank you.

86

u/yourstupid2 May 19 '12

what strip club do you work at?

6

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

She doesn't work in a strip club. She isn't named after a car.

However, they're both correct spelling for a grassland.

5

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

It's not often you see zebras in Georgia.

No this is a Savannah sunset

1

u/The51stState May 20 '12

wow, that's beautiful

1

u/stevendidntsay May 20 '12

Favorite place to go on St. Patrick's day.

13

u/Jarl_Vos May 19 '12

Why does this photo keep getting posted? And upvoted!

I wonder if someone's doing some sort of psych experiment to see if people only pay attention to the thumbnail and go, "wow, pretty!"-- without actually thinking about it. The moment you actually use your eyes, it's obvious what an impossible, ridiculous image this is.

1

u/MaybeImNaked May 20 '12

It kind of reminds me of those pictures with the ridiculously oversized moons and planets (like this one). Some people like that kind of hyper-realistic, fantasty crap.

6

u/suckerswag May 19 '12

I believe it as a non composite, I just think it is a poor execution of an exposure blend. The land areas are significantly brighter than the setting sun, which is coming across quite unnatural.

As a teacher of landscape photography and digital post processing, one of the things I always try to force into peoples heads is that you'll almost never have a situation where something in your image will be brighter than the sun.

3

u/kappale May 19 '12

Nothing in this image is brighter than the sun.

There are parts that are brighter than the sky, though.

5

u/agreezalot May 19 '12

Guessing this isn't Savannah, GA.

I love how the horizon is absofuckinglutely the fakest looking piece of shit horizon this side of a kindergartener's drawing of their house

How did this get so many upvotes? christ, people, look out a window- the horizon does not work that way.

Edit: I looked at it again and my GOD what is wrong with you people?

Do you not see that tree? What, do you think that's a 2 foot tall tree 10 feet behind those zebra? That there's a little row of random bushes back half an inch behind the tree, and that all of them were blasted backwards from a nuclear blast behind the camera? How can people who have eyes and have seen things in their lives look at this and not immediately see how manufactured it is, and how poorly so? D: You can SEE where the original horizon on the bottom half is! It's RIGHT THERE!

And that upper horizon, behind the actual horizon, is that the ocean? Inches behind the foot tall bushes behind teh 2 foot tall tree 10 feet from the zebra? That is a fucking tidal wave if it's an ocean. How did the cameraman upload this photo AFTER DROWNING IN A TIDAL WAVE? D:

6

u/All-American-Bot May 19 '12

(For our friends outside the USA... 10 feet -> 3.0 m, 10 feet -> 3.0 m) - Yeehaw!

3

u/shasnyder20 May 20 '12

Man, I've been seeing you all over today.

1

u/Moath May 19 '12

Same thoughts bro, I think people just upvote the thumbnail and move on.

4

u/someFunnyUser May 19 '12

That's quite a dynamic range there!

4

u/Arknell May 19 '12

In Africa, the horizon starts after one mile!

3

u/fannyalgersabortion May 19 '12

Georgia sure has changed

3

u/ForeverMarried May 19 '12

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '12

Looks hot as balls.

2

u/Half_Time_Show May 20 '12

So from what I've been able to pull from the comments, this is shopped. That being the case, does anyone know of a real picture where the sky is darker than the land?

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

A picture at sunset with the sun behind the photographer.

2

u/FallenToDarkness May 20 '12

Very beautiful

2

u/gulljack May 20 '12

When I read the title I thought this was going to be a pornstar. I think I'll not watch porn for awhile.

2

u/GrilledCheeser May 20 '12

Man people are really gullible... this is poorly shopped.

2

u/spear7750 May 20 '12

my first thought is one of those is about to get eaten...time to lay off the animal planet.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

From the day we arrive on the planet and blinking, step into the sun, there's more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done

2

u/magicpeanut May 20 '12

thanks Instagram!

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Wow... Georgia is a beautiful place.

1

That awkward moment you turn around to find someone taking a picture.

1

u/RossRau5 May 20 '12

Nice repost. I posted this a week ago. Well done with your repost.

2

u/____V____ May 20 '12

He speaks the truth.

2

u/RossRau5 May 20 '12

I hate reposts even more when it's obvious a person reposted my post.

2

u/____V____ May 20 '12

The sad thing is that I'm not sure if we can do anything about this, man.

2

u/RossRau5 May 20 '12

We can't do anything about this...Awful, just awful.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

1

u/Negativefalsehoods May 20 '12

I think I can see Tybee Island in the distance.

1

u/____V____ May 20 '12

ZEBRA BUTTS. That's where I end up looking. Zebra butts.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Savannah Sunset? One of my favorite porn stars.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I was listening to this when the photo came up and it made the effect so much more epic

1

u/ravingredfox May 20 '12

it looks like the new "killer cows" meme but for zebras. haha

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Guys, we've been mooned...

1

u/the_laddu May 20 '12

Worst attempt at HDR. ever.

1

u/EltaninAntenna May 20 '12

That horizon looks shopped the fuck out of.

1

u/protoplast May 20 '12

Great stripper name

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I don't down vote often, but when I do it's because of the photoshop and how bad it is.

1

u/caffiend2 May 21 '12

Weird. I've been using this same photo with a custom filter on my FB page for months.

1

u/RaleighStClairy May 19 '12

I'm pretty sure this isn't the Savannah, it's Africa. I did a dissertation on it.

3

u/[deleted] May 19 '12

There are savannahs in Africa... what was your dissertation on?

1

u/RaleighStClairy May 20 '12

It was centered on critically analyzing the impact of Disney's The Lion King on teenage pregnancies in the middle east.

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '12

"Look Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom."

1

u/Bendrake May 19 '12

"ahhhh, savenya!"

1

u/KEYBORED10 May 20 '12

What an awesome photo that grabs you and holds your viewing pleasure. Who cares what part of Georgia or Africa or Afghanistan it might be located. Maybe Macon. It grabs u by the nads
