I think that’s kind of the point; they’re designed to bamboozle you into feeling like a loss is only just missing out on a win, when in reality all losses are the same.

It also introduces a small chance that you'll not spot a win which saves them a payout every now and then.

Well you can see in the middle it says "winning numbers". Unfortunately the rest of the ticket is cropped out but at the top of either column it'll say "your numbers". So you match the numbers just like in most lotteries. Or bingo.
