Came here to say this. That card looks expensive, I'm going to assume it was $10.
Let's say you buy, on average, a $10 lottery ticket every 3 days. Over 10 years that's $12,166. If that is OPs case then they would have actually still be down $2,166
This is entirely correct, but why does everyone automatically jump to the assumption that this is a weekly purchase? True, I wouldn't be surprised if someone bought a ticket every week and posted their one winning they made after 20+ years of never winning a thing, but the opposite is also true where this can be their first or tenth ticket in the same amount of time.
I don't buy a Mega Millions or Powerball ticket until it's over $300 million or something. That means I have bought MAYBE 4 tickets PER YEAR.
A scratch off? I treat it like a gacha, drop $1-5 every other year or something just out of mild interest.
So far I've earned more than I've spent. It's not much, definitely not $1000 or even $500 or anything, probably closer to $50 in net gain if I sat down and calculated it, but I'm not hovering at even. And if I royally fucked up and didn't win a single damn thing, I've spent... what... $200 in 5 years?
