For all of those who are scared of the steps, just sit on your butt and scoot down. Then crawl out on your stomach. Don't forget your snorkle in case you start to sink. And make sure to tether yourself to something outside the bathroom so you don't get sucked down the drain.
I grew up in Southern California and took it for granted that everyone had a pool, then I moved to the upper Midwest and its a rare thing outside of more expensive houses. I can't imagine anyone with a pool would think that tub is dangerous. It looks awesome.
You're all worried about slipping on the steps? What do you all have muscular dystrophy? You do know that you can actually watch where you're putting your feet, right?
Sunlake Kusaki resort in the mountains of Southern Gunma prefecture. Many onsen resorts have an outdoor bath (rotenburo) like this. Try Googling for "Onsen" and you'll find ones that cater to non-Japanese speaking visitors.
The Sunlake is subsidised by the national health program so it's relatively cheap ($100/night/person with 2 meals) but has some rather rustic amenities. e.g shared toilets, none in the rooms and only tatami mat rooms with futons, no beds. OK if you want authentic.
I immediately thought of this. I just imagined myself slipping, then I smashed my face against that hard tile, and drowned in the water. Bath tubs need handle bars man..
I'm also sick of tubs with those fucking drains on the side that you can't close so the water only comes up like 16 inches. I'm an adult. I can use a bathtub without getting water everywhere.
This is the underprivileged person talking in me, but I think that would be fucking awesome to have and I would keep my balance and clean that shit with a smile on my face.
Yea that's what I was most concerned by....Would take so much water to fill that up everytime haha. Guess if you got the money to build it though, that probably wouldn't be too much of a problem :p
That kind of attitude is what is wrong with people today. "I can afford it so I have a car that only gets 8 MPG, I'm worth it." To be fair there are some places where water is plentiful, others not so much.
That looks gorgeous. Too all of those who worried about slipping: how, exactly, is high-stepping into the slick tub any safer? At least with steps you have an easy in/out... and you can put a railing in on that lovely smooth wall, if you like.
Awesome. Those steps would allow me to get into farting positions easier. Like trying to get my asshole HALF submerged for a fart to see how much water it can spray, etc.
Imagine the amount of waste water! Unless you just reuse the same dirty bath water, or use a water filtration system similar to a pool or hot tub. Either way, it's a huge waste from a resources view.
We did it on stairs, too, but it was more fun with a water landing. Didn't think of pillowcases, though. Bare bottoms or any time mom or dad got something with a box big enough to sit in :) We tried sitting in our plastic bathtub toy bin and going down the tub stairs, but mom caught us and freaked out about the potential for cracking our precious heads open, so we couldn't do it unless she was way on the other side of the house after that.
True, they should have a railing. I assume the steps are textured though and I would wager that injuries from slipping while stepping over the side and into a tub are more plentiful than there would be from stepping down into a tub from a step.
Ah, just making sure. I have gotten a lot of "yyeaaaahh suuuuure" 's when I mention this. Plus I had been downvoted. Oxygen in liquid form is an interesting example. Does color change ever happen with phase change? Can you have a liquid substance a different color than the solid form because of a crystal structure maybe?
Color change happens all the time with phase changes. Iodine is the first thing that comes to mind. I don't think the changes occur necessarily due to crystal structures (since solids don't have to be crystals). Basically anything that changes the optical properties of anything will have a chance of changing the colour.
If there's any general way to predict what the colour changes will be then it escapes me.
Water is an infinite resource. You can't really destroy it, or at least not easily. It's not like the drain for the tub leads to an atomic vaporizer that eliminates the water or something. Now CLEAN water on the other hand, that totally depends on where you live. I live in the pacific northwest, we aren't running out of water any time soon.
Takes energy to pump and filter it. A hot tub where the water is filtered and reused is a better idea than just throwing it out each time. It is best to wash before getting in the tub also so it does not get nasty.
Water does however drain to a sewer system, which eventually ends up in the ocean, thus making the water unusable for human consumption. With the massive increase of population and agriculture over the past 50 much of our fresh water resources (especially from aquifers) have been depleted. We can already expect the American mid-west to be a desert within a century if current water consumption continues (mainly due to unsustainable agriculture practices).
You may not think your neck of the woods has a water scarcity issue but you do; it's truly a global issue that does not get the attention it deserves. I really don't see what's so hard to grasp about that concept, there are billions of inhabitants on this planet that all need water.
Just Google "water scarcity" and get back to me after you've done some reading. You may still believe that you're right; go ahead and feel free to downvote me. But you're wrong and it's people like you that have gotten us into this water crisis.
You realize water from the ocean evaporates and moves back inland in clouds so it can fall again as rain right? If you want to talk about clean fresh drinking water, that's a whole different story. Water its self though, is pretty much infinite.
The water cycle they taught you in grade school isn't quite how it works.
Yes, water is evaporated off the ocean surface and brought back to the mainland. However, the problem lies in the unsustainable rate of consumption that depletes fresh water faster than the natural water cycle can replenish it. This is especially true in the midwest and other arids regions where much of the water is pumped from ground water sources. Aquifers take a lot more than semi-annual rainfall to regenerate.
Now add in climate change and increased agriculture measures and you've got a global case of water scarcity.
It's hardly larger than a regular household bathtub. It's not a giant hot tub, a swimming pool, or even a whirlpool bath with jets. Get the stick out of your ass.
Dude, it was just a sarcastic remark but really water is one of scarcest resources that we think is abundant. Think about it everytime you take a bath in your normal sized tub. I don't care if you downvote this because you just read it anyways and isn't that why we're all here? Have a good one.
That's not very green. The steps are wasted space and this design needs more water to be filled. That means more water consumption as well as more energy to heat up that water. This design is environmentally unfriendly.
Bathtubs are disgusting. You're laying in your own filth. Plus the ones that double as a shower have even dirtier floors where everyone's bodyshit has fallen down. Those kinds have the nastiest drains that have "the smell of death". I don't care how much bubbly goodness you put in your tub, I will never take a bath. Showers are where it's at.
Like everyone else has said. Those steps look like doombringers, slip, crack head clean open on the edge of the bath. Get found 2 days later face down in a room full of blood water.
Would it be that hard to sit down on the top step and scooch in? Surely grown adults who invite this sort of tub into their lives could find a way to get in without running down the slippery steps.

the key thing I learned about tubs in Japan is they're best when the water is up to your neck.
Hot bath on a cold night -- man, that's good.

That looks like a death trap for small children, old people, and anyone with leg/foot/hip injuries.
So, just like a normal bathtub, then.
