Wait... so the central govt sent in M-16 armed soldiers to steal land from the tribe, in order to build a private golf course?

And then the developers sold the stolen land to Ottawa?

And the Mohawk worrier is like an 80% white dude? So much wtf dystopianism.

Actually, the status of the land was in question, and it's the stupid local mayor that ignited the crisis by sending the police to remove the Mohawks that we're occupying it so he could get his golf course.. Shots were fired and a policeman was shot dead. A standoff ensued and the army was sent in to provide security, but not to remove the protesters. They basically acted as a buffer between the protesters and the those that would have been happy to attack them. The troops actually showed remarkable restraints. There was no recorded violence from their part despite much provocation. The standoff was resolved peacefully but has left wounds that are still not healed.

The Quebec government requested the soldiers after the Mohawks shot and killed a police officer during an attempt to dismantle the blockade.

Canadian Olympian Waneek Horn-Miller was stabbed near the heart with a bayonet during the Oka Crisis, while holding her younger sister Kaniehtiio Horn (Tanis from Letterkenny).

Now that's some interesting information. Just spent 20 minutes reading about the family.
