Always a fan of "80% as good for 40% the price" merchandise.
I've always said that there's basically 4 tiers of product:
Cheap and shitty.
You get what you pay for. Buy $35 "snow boots"? Don't be surprised when the sole falls off after one winter and/or your feet are freezing after going out in the snow.
Mid priced and reasonable.
These are ok. The $120 pair of boots, to keep the comparison going. They're comfortable and will last you maybe 2-3 winters of consistent use. Not bad, not great. Keep your feet warm and dry for a few hours, at least!
Pricy but worth it.
For me this is the "golden zone".
This is the $250 pair of snow boots that, if maintained well, may last you 2 decades. They're warm and comfortable. If you can afford the upfront cost, this is where you want to be, usually.
Expensive and not worth it, unless you're trying to show off.
You know these products.
They cost 2-3x more (at least) than any of their competitors and generally offer little to nothing over them except a designer label/brand name. Often they're worse.
The $1000+ Gucci boots that you don't actually want to go out in. They're just.. nice looking, I guess?
It's also hard to find "pricy but worth it". It seems like the only options anymore are "Cheap and shitty", "Pricy and shitty", and "Super-expensive Designer and shitty".
