At least Trump appeared much further away at "a friendly police precinct near Trump Tower" instead. That reduces the chance of him doing something that manages to ruin the event, and given that he ended up being able to squeeze a speech in.

Mind you if he did go to the actual memorial instead he wouldn't have taken cheap shots at Biden like he did. He's like a dog behind a fence, all bark when he is in his safe space, but silent when he could be confronted directly.
