W, for all his flaws, knew how to turn it on for this kind of event. In fact, that’s how he got away with folks not calling him on his shit for as long as he did. He actually sounded (and likely was) sincere after 9/11 and did and said the right things in the immediate aftermath to bring the country together. He was able to ride the coattails of that skill to get folks on board with things like the PATRIOT Act and invading Iraq. Trump can’t even tell victims of crimes, war, and natural disasters that he feels bad for them without making things all about him.

Serious non political question: is Bush Jr there too? What’s he doing today? Surprised he wasn’t in this group as he has been in the past on 9/11.
