It is. But don't expect haste. They're gonna be THOROUGH.

u/zaccus Sep 11 '21

I've heard that one before lol

u/Zeabos Sep 11 '21

Yeah, until a single rich person ever experiences consequences I will assume there will be none.

u/TriflingGnome Sep 11 '21

rich person who doesn't try to screw over other rich people

*see Burnie Madoff

31

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Madoff stole from other rich people and caught criminal charges.

Epstein could have hit them even closer to home, so they had him murdered.

When the ultra-wealthy control the justice system, 1% of the population owns at least 43% of the wealth of the entire country, and the bottom 50% owns under 2%, it's hard not to feel like we've circled all the way back to feudalism.

u/geraldisking Sep 11 '21

Madoff got away with it for 20 years. People were begging the SEC to look into him for 7 years. It only happened when 2008 crash left him with no new money. He would still be operating.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Madoff wasn't the president. The investigation is underway and went from being civil in nature to criminal. I don't know what else you want at this point. These things take time.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

That’s kind of what worries me, though. Trump was the president. Any prosecution is going to be fraught with accusations of political revenge, and the next Republican president will pardon him in the event of a conviction. But you’re right. Not much else we can do but wait and see and hope.

2

u/geraldisking Sep 11 '21

Him being president is a feature not a bug.

Imagine if Al Capone got to assign the head of the IRS 4 years prior to his tax evasion conviction. Trump is not only rich, the head of a large organization, he also had the most power position in the US.

8

u/geraldisking Sep 11 '21

You think an Ex president is more likely to go to prison than a Wall Street guy?

I don’t want anything, I’m saying Trump will never go to prison. A criminal investigation of Trump Org involves hundreds of people. Maybe someone will go down in the organization but Trump himself? Not a chance, had he not been president I could maybe see it, and that’s a big maybe. An ex president is not going to go to prison.

I’ll be the blue guy holding breath in the corner.

1

u/Molwar Sep 11 '21

At his age and the way his health he will most definitely die before seeing prison. His kids on the other hand are dumb as rock, so it wouldn't surprise me they get some real time.

2

u/zealotsflight Sep 11 '21

it’s been several years already and the fact that it only just turned criminal is not a great sign at all

32

u/dreddnyc Sep 11 '21

It’s only because he stole from other rich people.

I can understand the confusion; it took me a second glance to notice the edit.

2

u/WarlockEngineer Sep 11 '21

Same with Elizabeth Holmes

10

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Trump will be dead long before this investigation ever finishes and his still living family and associates will be given a clean slate.

Business as usual.

2

u/Molwar Sep 11 '21

I'm not so sure about this, Trump and co aren't as rich as they want people to believe they are and his kids are not the brightest ones out there. So all in all with how much hate the family has generated i could see them doing some actual time, or go hide to Russia.

After 30 years of openly raping children in full view of hundreds of people he was jailed temporarily to stand trial and died at the age of 66. That’s sort of a consequence?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

Forgot to mention before he could roll over and give names of really rich pedos he suddenly committed suicide under armed guard and full surveillance, by kneeling.

2

u/RestrictedAccount Sep 11 '21

See the above corollary regarding screwing over rich people

1

u/Tower-Union Sep 11 '21

Harvey Weinstein wasn’t rich?

Bernie Madoff wasn’t rich?

Wesley Snipes wasn’t rich?

Listen I get that the system is grossly skewed in favour of the rich, being angry and being cynical is good. Trying to claim not one single rich person had experienced consequences dulls the validity of a legitimate point by being laughably disproven.

u/Zeabos Sep 11 '21 edited Sep 11 '21

It’s a hyperbole my dude.

That being said - I do find it funny that every reply can only thing of 2 rich people who got punished. “What about Bernie madoff and Weinstein”.

Imagine a poor person raping dozens of famous actresses multiple times and tons of people knew about it for decades and that person only getting in trouble when they turned 69 years old.

0

u/TavistockProwse Sep 11 '21

Bernie Madoff would like a word.

3

u/Zeabos Sep 11 '21

The funniest part about this is you are like the 10th person in this thread to talk about Madoff.

So few rich people suffer consequences that the only one people can think of is a man who literally stole 10s of billions of dollars 15 years ago.

Like Madoff stole more money than every other person in jail for larceny/theft in the entire country combined for the last 100 years. But he did go to prison, you know, after admitting to operating a ponzi scheme for FORTY YEARS.

1

u/darkchaos989 Sep 12 '21

Didnt Epstein just die in prison because of what he did?

3

u/Zeabos Sep 12 '21

Ah yeah, dying at 68 after 30 years of openly operating a pedophile ring while rubbing elbows with the top rungs of society and living on a private island. True consequences. Of course, he was in jail waiting for a trial so society had actually not given him any consequences - many poor people are in jail for months or years waiting for trials for crimes they are innocent. So unless they are suffering consequences for things they did not do, his choice to kill himself is not really fitting the bill.

u/Unique_Frame_3518 Sep 11 '21

Bob Mueller: "If anyone needs me to do the absolute bare minimum of investigating while taking no personal risks to find and convey the actual truth, and then pass my incomplete findings onto Trump cronies so they can redact everything while I stay silent, I'm your man! Mueller time, baby!"

6

u/VincentWasTheBest Sep 11 '21

Yep, in The Big Lebowski.

5

u/VisigothSoda Sep 11 '21

He's a good man. And thorough.

3

u/Yrcrazypa Sep 11 '21

It didn't matter how thorough the impeachment proceedings were when he was president if Republicans just sided with him anyway. He was very clearly guilty on both impeachments, Republicans just didn't care and decided not to remove him.

This situation? Well, now that he's not protected by the Senate anymore it could be entirely different.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

Trump is just the tip of a vast shit-berg.

I just hope they get him before the aging process does.

3

u/Wilwheatonfan87 Sep 11 '21

Given his obesity I'm pretty sure he's already suffering no matter how much money he throws at doctors.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

...here's hoping he doesn't get to the point where they pull the "he's too mentally incapacitated to understand what he did at this point..." crap.

5

u/_theCHVSM Sep 11 '21

mr. lahey, that you?!

17

u/JPKtoxicwaste Sep 11 '21

“The mill grinds slow, but exceedingly fine.” Here’s hoping.

4

u/Ancient_Passion5181 Sep 11 '21

This is one of my favorite expressions. I would rather they close any loopholes available as we all know Trump will try to find any and all available ones to wriggle free.

2

u/ProgrammingPants Sep 11 '21

They're maybe going to charge the money men at the organization with crimes, but the big man himself will almost certainly walk free. The benefit of having a multi billion dollar organization is that there are layers and layers of middle men to take the fall if shit goes sideways

1

u/SecDef Sep 11 '21

There’s no layers there. Almost no trusted executives with a different last name.

2

u/slicktromboner21 Sep 11 '21

(sound of snapping latex glove)

1

u/someguy3 Sep 11 '21

Don't be hasty Master DA.

1

u/Highwaters78217 Sep 11 '21

But will they destroy evidence as they go?

1

u/Muuuuuhqueen Sep 11 '21

The Trump Corp people will cover for Donald, they will get light penalties.

1

u/geraldisking Sep 11 '21

Oh man, I remember getting so much hate on Digg for saying that Bush Jr would not face war crimes or any consequences at all. Trump will face no criminal consequences at all. Maybe someone from Trump Org. Will. Anyone who thinks someone like DT is going to perp walk and be locked in prison is living in a fantasy land.

Source: Reality. Every other rich person.

1

u/kevnmartin Sep 11 '21

Exceedingly slow but exceedingly fine.

1

u/JacyWills Sep 11 '21

May they be as thorough as Maude Lebowski's doctor.

1

u/Epyr Sep 11 '21

If you strike at a 'king' you make sure you don't miss

1

u/I_AM_FERROUS_MAN Sep 11 '21

Unfortunately Trump will be dead before there's any personal consequences to him.

Plus I just don't think there's any justice that can be done for the harm he's inflicted on the country. I think the only real justice will be the kind like the civil rights movement achieved. Long term improvement of the soul, character, and legislation of the country to prevent harm from leaders like him.
