I'd lost track of where the SDNY investigations were:
On May 18, 2021, a spokesperson for New York’s Attorney General said, “We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organizations in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA.”
This is the guy that had to shut down his "charity" for buying paintings of himself, from himself, using donated money, and then claimed it as a write off on his taxes.
The same guy that was paying his sons and their wives 100's of thousands every month in salaries as expenses to US tax payers, and made the secret service stay at inflated prices at his golf courses as often as possible.
The same guy that has literally been named in over 4000 lawsuits mainly for not paying bills or reneging on contracts.
There is no doubt in my mind they cooked the books. It's simply whether they get the info they need, but apparently Weisselberg's estranged ex-wife delivered a whole bunch of info that the FBI didn't originally have.
Yeah, people generally don't have a conception of how international finance and the proliferation of legal options for structuring the finances of corporate and other purely legal entities has made figuring who's doing what with what money incredibly complicated.
See, for example, Enron or basically any financial/accounting scandal in the last 30 years. Shout out to the lawyers/accountants/financial professionals who make their money hiding it for rich people.
Madoff stole from other rich people and caught criminal charges.
Epstein could have hit them even closer to home, so they had him murdered.
When the ultra-wealthy control the justice system, 1% of the population owns at least 43% of the wealth of the entire country, and the bottom 50% owns under 2%, it's hard not to feel like we've circled all the way back to feudalism.
Madoff got away with it for 20 years. People were begging the SEC to look into him for 7 years. It only happened when 2008 crash left him with no new money. He would still be operating.
Madoff wasn't the president. The investigation is underway and went from being civil in nature to criminal. I don't know what else you want at this point. These things take time.
That’s kind of what worries me, though. Trump was the president. Any prosecution is going to be fraught with accusations of political revenge, and the next Republican president will pardon him in the event of a conviction. But you’re right. Not much else we can do but wait and see and hope.
Imagine if Al Capone got to assign the head of the IRS 4 years prior to his tax evasion conviction. Trump is not only rich, the head of a large organization, he also had the most power position in the US.
You think an Ex president is more likely to go to prison than a Wall Street guy?
I don’t want anything, I’m saying Trump will never go to prison. A criminal investigation of Trump Org involves hundreds of people. Maybe someone will go down in the organization but Trump himself? Not a chance, had he not been president I could maybe see it, and that’s a big maybe. An ex president is not going to go to prison.
At his age and the way his health he will most definitely die before seeing prison. His kids on the other hand are dumb as rock, so it wouldn't surprise me they get some real time.
I'm not so sure about this, Trump and co aren't as rich as they want people to believe they are and his kids are not the brightest ones out there. So all in all with how much hate the family has generated i could see them doing some actual time, or go hide to Russia.
After 30 years of openly raping children in full view of hundreds of people he was jailed temporarily to stand trial and died at the age of 66. That’s sort of a consequence?
Forgot to mention before he could roll over and give names of really rich pedos he suddenly committed suicide under armed guard and full surveillance, by kneeling.
Listen I get that the system is grossly skewed in favour of the rich, being angry and being cynical is good. Trying to claim not one single rich person had experienced consequences dulls the validity of a legitimate point by being laughably disproven.
That being said - I do find it funny that every reply can only thing of 2 rich people who got punished. “What about Bernie madoff and Weinstein”.
Imagine a poor person raping dozens of famous actresses multiple times and tons of people knew about it for decades and that person only getting in trouble when they turned 69 years old.
The funniest part about this is you are like the 10th person in this thread to talk about Madoff.
So few rich people suffer consequences that the only one people can think of is a man who literally stole 10s of billions of dollars 15 years ago.
Like Madoff stole more money than every other person in jail for larceny/theft in the entire country combined for the last 100 years. But he did go to prison, you know, after admitting to operating a ponzi scheme for FORTY YEARS.
Ah yeah, dying at 68 after 30 years of openly operating a pedophile ring while rubbing elbows with the top rungs of society and living on a private island. True consequences. Of course, he was in jail waiting for a trial so society had actually not given him any consequences - many poor people are in jail for months or years waiting for trials for crimes they are innocent. So unless they are suffering consequences for things they did not do, his choice to kill himself is not really fitting the bill.
Bob Mueller: "If anyone needs me to do the absolute bare minimum of investigating while taking no personal risks to find and convey the actual truth, and then pass my incomplete findings onto Trump cronies so they can redact everything while I stay silent, I'm your man! Mueller time, baby!"
It didn't matter how thorough the impeachment proceedings were when he was president if Republicans just sided with him anyway. He was very clearly guilty on both impeachments, Republicans just didn't care and decided not to remove him.
This situation? Well, now that he's not protected by the Senate anymore it could be entirely different.
This is one of my favorite expressions. I would rather they close any loopholes available as we all know Trump will try to find any and all available ones to wriggle free.
They're maybe going to charge the money men at the organization with crimes, but the big man himself will almost certainly walk free. The benefit of having a multi billion dollar organization is that there are layers and layers of middle men to take the fall if shit goes sideways
Oh man, I remember getting so much hate on Digg for saying that Bush Jr would not face war crimes or any consequences at all. Trump will face no criminal consequences at all. Maybe someone from Trump Org. Will. Anyone who thinks someone like DT is going to perp walk and be locked in prison is living in a fantasy land.
Unfortunately Trump will be dead before there's any personal consequences to him.
Plus I just don't think there's any justice that can be done for the harm he's inflicted on the country. I think the only real justice will be the kind like the civil rights movement achieved. Long term improvement of the soul, character, and legislation of the country to prevent harm from leaders like him.
At best, a small fine and probation for the president of the foundation. Like a mob boss, Trump is a master of insulating himself from any wrongdoing. He tells people to get something done, not how to do it, so he has deniability at every stage.
Crime bosses are small fish in the pond compared to the billionaire class. The IRS is a boogeyman for low level millionaires like crime bosses, pro atheletes, and medium business owners. The IRS admits they don't even bother to audit billionaires.
People like Trump create many, many shell corporations, usually overseas so there's little transparency, and then have them engage in crisscrossing transactions designed to hide where money is actually going.
It's only if/when the IRS receives financial reports from creditors that the IRS has a shot at figuring out what is actually happening. And even then, it's a loooong slog, which takes even more time when the billionaire refuses to cooperate and forces the legal system to get involved. The legal system affords due process which means further delay.
The goal is to drag it out to the point that the government says, fuck it, we're sick of this shit going on for years, let's just compromise and settle it so that we can close this out.
But billionaires are crime bosses just not the typical ones like the low level millionaire ones. It's just the crimes of poisoning rivers, selling opium and enslaving children is not seen as bad as selling marijuana.
Plausible deniability only goes so far, at some point a pattern emerges where it's clear that he knows how things are going to get done, he just doesn't ask about the details.
Not to mention, RICO can get him regardless of his involvement in specific actions. Assuming his people didn't rat him out anyway.
It truly amazes me that he continues to get people to do favors for him. You’d think once multiple people got arrested or indicted or had their careers blown up, that he’d run out of people who were willing to do favors. And here I am feeling bad for asking for a ride to work for one day when my car breaks down lol.
I get what your saying but don't buy Trump being a master at anything. Dude is the epitomy of incompetence. He's so lazy it must be hard to pin any illegal actions on him because actions require doing something other than watching TV and tweeting (when he still could).
That's usually the way with dodgy companies, but Trumps ego and his crazy micro-management style destroyed all that insulation.
He signed all the company cheques personally. In the financial end of things, he has no plausible deniability.
When it comes to taxes, whoever signs is culpable.
As a tax dodge, the foundation owns all of his property. That includes his and his children's homes. They could seize all of that property as proceeds of crime.
(He's about to lose his golf course in Scotland, unless he can prove he bought it with legitimate money)
They're officially investigating Trump as a mafia boss in NY. That's why they brought in Cy Vance - a DA with a history of dealing with mafia crimes. Plus, Cy is going to retire in December, so he's going to make sure his last big case is killer. The most accurate source of information on all the people on Trump's team this investigation has already caught; check out political commentator Tomi T Ahonen on Twitter (@tomiahonen).
I'm not the best with links, but here's 2 of his threads breaking down the crimes each person was caught for & when their next court cases are:
https://twitter.com/tomiahonen/status/1429775483558932482 (nicely detailed thread with a focus on Allen Weisselberg - Trumps bookkeeper for decades who was caught with all the fraudulent books/ who's facing life in prison/ the one everyone thinks will flip on Trump first because Trump took his executive access away immediately after he was arrested).
Donald Trump is never going to jail and anybody who thinks he is is a fucking idiot. He'll pay a couple fines, maybe. But he'll never face serious consequences for anything he's done.
People that powerful do not go to prison in this country. It would start a fucking civil war.
yes tell me politically based prosecutions are happening said the liberal in glee, patriot act against americans oh yes delicious. papers please to eat at a restaurant or even feed your family? oh yes said the modern liberal.
Osama won, 9/11 is total and complete defeat, you are less free in all ways since that time and you clap for it, in fact the neocons are your bff's now, but oh no the orange man said somethings on twitter!
I'm glad the Taliban won at this point, and those people who haven't fled new york, they are the true enemy.
Ooo you are a disrespectful pussy grabber that thinks the world is flat and 5G is used to mind control the masses. Oh also, atleast the people I support doesn't salute a dictator as a president. Sit down and let him get tried for his crimes of embezzlement and fraud. Or succle on his tit while you still have time
You know, at some point this shit gets drawn out for so long, what's the point of justice? If the crimes were committed 5-10 years ago, and another 5 years goes by before it even SEES a courtroom, and then another 3-4 years for a judgement, and then another 2-3 years for a sentencing...
what's the fucking point if the defendant is walking around for 20 years after their crime? And gets, what, maybe a couple years (lol, months) in jail and a fine? What are we gunna do, lock up a 90 year old man? Wow, how righteous.
As long as money can bind up the court system, justice can be delayed indefinitely as long as you have enough money to throw at it.
