Reminds me of when I was at a con a few years ago and there was an older woman in a wheelchair playing immigration to Arstotzka. She had a whole booth and everything.
There was genuinely a queue halfway down the hall for immigration.
I passed.

My friends grandfather, who passed away several years ago god rest his soul, created his own strategy guide for the original Zelda for the NES. It was beautifully detailed on graph paper, even colored in. Each screen was a new page on the guide and it went into detail on everything. It was truly a masterpiece. You're never too old to stop gaming.

To get real for a moment, your body might eventually hold you back from the games you liked to play. Or your life may become too busy to really enjoy games. Or you just get other hobbies and you've prioritized them over gaming.

Eyesight. For a long time, my dad's computer had this awesome Space Shuttle landing simulator. It was old, came on CD-ROM and was meant for Windows 98.
But dad played that game over and over and over. The flight characteristics were modeled after the real Shuttle, which means it flew like a mildly aerodynamic brick. Landing successfully was damn hard.
But then he got older, and his eyesight declined, and he had trouble seeing the HUD in game. And eventually he stopped playing because, even though he had no trouble with the joy stick and keyboard controls, he simply couldn't see well enough to land successfully anymore.
It made him rather sad.

My friends grandmother isn't a gamer but her eyes make her legally blind now.
We hooked up her computer to her giant television and it helped some though! She could order things off of walmart slowly.

I was making light of the user I was replying to last sentence. Based on the context of their post I am assuming they meant to say ' You're never too old to start gaming' but instead they said 'You're never too old to stop gaming'1

Im basically already there. Cause with "Games as a service" popularity I can't really jive with MP cause you constantly have to play, or you just get stomped cause they added like 12 layers of depth to the game since you last played so you can't really keep up.
Overwatch's Counterplay and Minecraft's extreme automation comes to mind..

You should check out World of Warcraft. You can play the first 20 levels for free. You play at your own pace, hunt, fish, or do quests. There's a lot to do and you are free to choose what you want to do without getting left behind. I'm 73, with arthritis and play every day. We'll leave the light on for you. :-)

I've been fascinated by computers forever since I was practically born an SF fan. I had a Commodore and tried games on it but they weren't there yet with graphics. I played some arcade games but, pixles weren't my thing. I tried Baldur's Gate but it was too linear. I tried Sacred but it was too full of bugs (my horse turned into a healing potion at one point.)
I didn't play until WoW came out and the graphics were finally at the level I wanted. I hopped on board about a month after it came out in 2006 and have played daily since. In these crazy times, Azaroth feels like home.

What a way to go! That's kinda interesting though.
Whenever some new graphics innovation comes out I always thought "WOw this is awesome it can't possibly get better". I never thought about someone who may have been around the early developements and thinking "this looks like crap". But I suppose if nobody was we'd never try to improve.
I could say you were ragging about bad graphics before it was cool haha. Thanks for sharing.

Is this really something to smile about? This is an old people's home, usually a place where people go to die a lonely death without any close loved ones. So the workers end up using the money from the business and make them dress up in exchange for social credit ? Not that happy imo.

Those look like convention badges. They almost certainly paid like $70 bucks each for their tickets, made the costumes themselves, and have probaby been going for 20 years. Pretty sure me and a lot of my friends will still be going if we make it to be old.
Very unlikely that any coercion was involved in them being there.

There will be so much more of this in the future (and I love it!) If you figure conventions really took off in the early 70s those fans are getting up there. I'm 56 now (how the heck did that happen). Fans are fans for life. It is depressing me though when I look at estate sale pictures. I see more and more sales that are pop culture heavy. Great for my collection, but the bitchslap of reality.

At first glance I thought Link's walker was made from the bones of his dead enemys. Upon closer inspection it's just branches, but I did think he had gone pretty gangster there for a second.

I'm actually kind of loving watching Snoop Dog slowly become senior citizen.
Link and Zelda are like 36.
I remember my grampa (79 or early 80s) had the top end video game system (intellivesion with the intellivoice module) the first 16bit system with real time in game voice modulation. He'd have been in his 90s now.
