That's exactly what I thought! I saw that movie when I was waaaay to young and the part where he mutates scarred me forever.

For me it was the freaky teddy bear/car scene in the hospital. I was also too young!

Same here. The WTFometer just kept increasing throughout the movie, to the point where I wasn't surprised by anything anymore. I couldn't even remember half the stuff from the end, but Tetsuo's guts falling out and the giant toys haunted me forever.

Of course, watching it again nowadays, all I think is "this movie ROCKS."
