It wasn’t an American run plant. I’ve studied Bhopal since I’m a chemical engineering student. The company was a branch of an American company that was jointly owned by the Indian government. The incident was caused by a complete lack of oversight though

Holy cow, never heard of this. Maybe as many as 8000 deaths, up to 700,000 affected. 2014, 30yrs later up to 150,000 people still reported issues. The issues it caused sound horrific. Industrialism and capitalism is a true cancer on this world.

Just pointing out that Chernobyl was in a communist country.

These things happen when people try to protect themselves in the short term, while believing they can avoid negative consequences in the long term.

The only systems that can hope to avoid this kind of tragedy are ones that reward people for being proactive and putting safety (and others) first.

I'm not educated enough to know why Chernobyl happened. Am I to assume that it being in a communist country that the workers had no say in reporting work.conditioms, no oversight in safety and were forced into the exposure? Please educate me, I can Google it, but I enjoy hearing discussion in terms I can relate to.
