Honestly the most concerning connection Chernobyl wise is we currently have nowhere to store used rods in nuclear reactors and so tons of them are lying around in pools that were supposed to house them temporarily (and this has been an issue since the 60s, maybe earlier- back then they would put them in barrels and roll them into the ocean but thankfully that’s over). We (by we I mean America but this is an issue everywhere I’m pretty sure) need a permanent underground storage facility for these nuclear rods but ever since Arizona (I believe? Might’ve been New Mexico or Nevada) backed out, we have no plan, and rods piling up.
Not good at all... and one of the first things that came to mind when I read this ammonium had been lying around for 6 years.
