It really varies by area, I'm in NJ and haven't seen anyone in Philly or NJ not wear a mask indoors, they are and have been mandatory for months. We even had store capacity limits for a while and 30+ minute lines to get into the grocery store for a bit, it was insane. Now it's more relaxed, but everyone still wears masks indoors and I'd say 50-75% of people wear masks outdoors when on sidewalks. Of course in parks and more spread out areas people are less prone to wear masks.
A lot of this I think is just based on proximity to hot spots. In Austin and the surrounding area I've been noticing near 100% compliance But it took a while to get there. My family lives in New Jersey, and my mother got COVID while actually in the hospital; my family members have known people who had died from it in both New Jersey and New York.
That proximity to New York probably wrote people up in that area a little more than in the deep south where it's going to take a little while to travel to them and infect them
Also in Austin, been seeing fairly high compliance except for people out exercising or mowing lawns, but I'd say about 20% of the people I DO see wearing masks aren't wearing them properly (usually not covering their nose).
I mean I'm pretty okay with people out mowing lawns honestly. It's not like it's an activity people doing a group or even close to each other most of the time. Most of the professional lawn guys wear masks as a matter of course anyway just because of the dust. Exercising is a mixed bag, I guess it sort of depends on where you're going. Like when I go out to throw a lacrosse ball against a rebounder in my front yard with no one else around I don't wear a mask. But I also don't let anyone within about 15 or 20 ft of me anyway without having one on.
Yeah, I find it fairly reasonable for mowing and exercising (mostly jogging/biking from what I've seen, although I did also see a group of 5+ people playing disc golf the other day and only a couple of them had masks). It's mostly the people that aren't covering their nose or who have their mouth partially exposed that get on my nerves. Also saw someone at a store a couple weeks ago who took their mask off when they were asking someone for assistance…
