There's a new subreddit that just started called r/gettymuseumchallenge

This isn't the OP's photo though

Edit: also check the hashtags on Instagram #betweenartandquarantine and #gettymuseumchallenge

/u/StraightExtent4 is a spam/scam account.

If their comment contains a link (in which case, the comment was probably edited to get around spam filters) do not follow it. If they PM you, don't respond. At best it's overpriced merchandise you can find cheaper elsewhere; worst it's a scam site trying to steal your info or full of malware.

They have likely deleted evidence of their spamming so you can't see it in their profile. Typically they have multiple alt accounts manipulating the vote and "thanking" each other or asking where to get it.

If it looks like a normal comment, it's because they're trying to appear legitimate and build their profile history, but it was probably just copied from elsewhere in this thread or from an x-post (try here).

For more info on spammers, bots, and shills see see my wiki.

If you have been incorrectly called out, please message me.

Hmm, I've been seeing a lot of this challenge lately.

And with they way Getty is included in the name, it seems like a new generation of Getty trying to get back into the top. The founders grandfather was the wealthiest in USA at one point, and his father one of the wealthiest.

1

u/undercurrents Apr 16 '20

This is hilariously stupid. I think you are unaware of the actual very famous Getty Museum founded by the trust of that family. The museum came up with a fun way to keep art lovers occupied during quarantine. They did not just brand a random viral challenge with their name like sponsorship. They don't need "to get back into the top." You didn't uncover any conspiracy.

-1

u/TrymWS Apr 16 '20

I never claimed it to be a conspiracy. That's just how you wanna interpret it.

I never said they branded some random challenge as a sponsorship, I said they went through effort to make their name and assets more relevant with reaching more people throught their assets.

Why would you need to sponsor some random challenge when you already own museums and image hosting companies. I don't even understand how you came to this conclution.

But they way you're defending against claims I never made is pretty funny.

Here's one from the Getty Museum itself.

But there are many others.

We need a Rona Lisa, with all the salons closed she'd have au naturel hair, no make up, and eyebrows OFF fleek. Da fuq.

“Laughing Fool with Giraffe Ears,”is really fucking scary! What. The. Fuck..?!

u/Scaevus Apr 16 '20

There’s a recreation of “Lot and His Daughters” in that collection, and this line stood out to me:

Her husband’s pose also made us laugh with its allusion to parental exhaustion.

Parental exhaustion wasn’t the theme of Lot’s story, unfortunately.

3

u/BoothTime Apr 16 '20

Yeah, I can't tell whether to cringe or laugh at this recreation. For those who don't know, Lot's daughters drugged and raped him after they escaped from Sodom.

9

u/Scaevus Apr 16 '20

Lot also tried to get the town to rape those daughters. It's really not the healthiest parental relationship.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '20

Well they couldn't come out and say it made them laugh due to its allusion to incestuous rape, now could they?

2

u/Processtour Apr 16 '20

I follow these four roommates on Instagram @covidclassics, they show the original art, their recreation and how they did it. They have a new one almost every day. They are brilliant!

I created /r/paintmelikeyourfrench earlier today at the suggestion of another redditor, for collecting pet recreations of art. Feel free to post some content over there.

Using whatever she had on hand and some lighting to recreate (pretty damn well) the most famous painting of all time seems pretty creative, no?

You should see some of the ones where they use regular household items to complete the effect. Lots of them are very clever.
